Difference between ROI and ROI

There are two types of ROI.

One of them is Return OF Investment(this doesn't actually exist),
while the other is Return ON Investment.
both are different.

The ROI used on this forum is Return ON Investment, but some people get confused between them and end up accidently having to return up to 2x more than they intended to.

Return Of Investment is the return of the initial investment, for example, you invested $100 and Return Of Investment was 50%. You would get $50. This isn't what ROI is; but what people THINK it is.

Return On Investment is the return onto the initial investment, for example, you invested $100 and Return On Investment was 50%. You would get $150 back.

I never knew this, but that explains why some people hate the idea of ROIs always being somehow over 200%, when really its 100% + return of investment.

Every investment thread states how much they will get back if they invest x amount of money and if they don't its not hard to msg the person and figure it out lmao.

Are you sure? "Every" is extremely inaccurate. You must not be active in the Investments area.

Why would I look at an investment thread, thinking I'm getting 2.2x the money, being EXTREMELY interested and then all of a sudden, sending a message to double check, and then to check my messages after a day or so to find out it was only 1.2x.

The title makes no sense, its like saying "Difference between apple and apple".
People usually say 150% ROI, as people who are not super intellectual will be able to type it up on Google, to see how much they will get back after the time specified. For example: Investing $10 will get you 150% ROI. The average John Doe would type on on google "150% of 10" That is then $15, therefore they will know that they will be getting paid $15 by the time specified.
There was not much to be cleared up, as most people on this forum just do that. Anyhow, nice of you to just type up a thread.

So most people actually know they're paying back over 10x the amount they intended to?

Apart from that, what I am saying, just about every investment thread on this refers to ROI such as the initial amount + return. Its a bloody minecraft community, so I do not see how it really matters at all. Majority of people understand the way it works, on here.

ROI, return on investment, is simply calculated by doing (net profit / initial investment) * 100%.

If you invest $10, and you get $15 back, your net profit is $5.
($5 / $10) * 100% = 50% ROI.

It's math, it technically can be a real thing, anything can.

It's just not... really handled that way in the real world. Return on investment is more commonly used and when people say they're offering 140% ROI for $1 they usually mean Return of Investment, even though it's not used that frequently IRL.
