Recently, the General Discussion section of MCM has been getting lots of "Stay Away From User XYZ" or "User XYZ is a scammer." (Examples: https://www.mc-market.org/threads/594605 & https://www.mc-market.org/threads/594473/)

I think MCM should ban people from posting those kinds of threads in General Discussion. The whole point of General Discussion is for discussion, NOT to trash other users in a place with much less moderation than the Scam Report Section. To those who aren't aware, the SR section is where you can report a user for a scam; this section is moderated, so people don't straight up start yelling at each other in a public thread. [/sarcasm]

All in all, we should Disallow these kinds of threads are they quickly become a shouting match, something that is very pointless.

Right, but I can open a thread on a random user, and just argue saying they've done Xyz. Scam reports are moderated, so there isn't people yelling at each other full on.

https://www.mc-market.org/threads/592952/.

Justis says this comes under 1.5 afaik. Report for that rule.
as far as im concerned its freedom of speech. The scam report waiting time is like 3 months, you can scam at least like 10 members by the time that a scam report even gets noticed, so at least you get some warning. Which is kinda ironic that everyone has free time due to Corona (unless your within medical services)
Freedom of speech is well and good in person, but on a marketplace forum where you could hypothetically say anything that is slanderous, that doesn't scale well. Use reputation. Use Scam Reports. They're there for a reason. Use your freedom of speech there.
Nah fam, scam reports takes forever. If you don't care about the thread just don't open them but this could save someone from getting scammed
No it couldn't, there are so many unorganised slander threads in General Discussion it would take you a silly amount of time to go through them for one person. The search bar might help, maybe, but then not only do you have to search a user's profile (rep/scam reports), but you also have to waste time traversing the general discussion forum. If you're worried about time, posting to general discussion is not the way to go.

And this is exactly why it's covered under 1.5 and why 1.5 should be clarified.

I understand why people post it everywhere but sometimes its just not true because people tell their side of the story. At least have a specific place for it or something, its being posted everywhere.

One of the main things is if the proof you have isn't enough for a scam report but want to let the people know that a user may potentially be sus, I think its a good way. These posts don't really spam up the section and are helpful for people who may be working with such person.

As Ally has said, this is already a thing. We currently have a suggestion pending for us to reword the rule to make the fact that they're not allowed more obvious.

Denied, thanks for the suggestion
