Currently i am paying an extra 3$ a month for the dedicated ip on my server recently so much stuff has happened and money is flying out everywhere i have a domain for my server so does this mean i dont need a dedicated ip and if i dont need it could you explain how you route the port with your domain aswell

Set up your DNS so there's an A record pointing at the IP of your server. Check out some tutorials online if you don't know how to do this.

If you are referring to what most hosts call this where a "Dedicated IP" is the port 25565, it is possible to link up a domain with a port other than the default Minecraft one which you receive when you buy a dedicated IP. This is done through an SRV record.

This guide from Pebble Host explains setting up both an A record and an SRV record for a Minecraft server (https://help.pebblehost.com/en/article/how-to-connect-a-domain-to-your-server-1exxanh/). If you need any more help, please feel free to let me know and I will be glad to help you.

i said above i am paying for a dedicated ip which means i am on a hosting company ?
In that case you'll need a dedicated IP in order to point your domain name to the dedicated IP of the server.

I did use an SRV record a while ago and I had issues for the first week after setting it up that were dependent on the player. I am unsure if this was caused by an SRV record or not as I was never able to really test it. That is the only time that I have personally used one myself and I have barely ever heard of anyone having issues with them and if they have, they have resolved themselves within a few days or weeks.

It should not be buggy. It can take up to 2 days for it to work fully though.[DOUBLEPOST=1550688021][/DOUBLEPOST]

No, because the default port for minecraft is 25565. Anything that isn't that port will be required at the end of the IP when logging in to MC.

This is what is resolved by the use of an SRV record by the way. Without it, you will have to use the port on the end as mentioned in the response.

ok maybe i'm a dingdong but dedicated ip means the domain name (test.example.com), does it not? a non-dedicated ip is just the 100.200.300.400:25565 style i believe
anyways yes you need an ip

it means having 25565 rather than 23498 etc
