I personally normally play singleplayer.

Modded has definitely died in the last 2 years or so.

A few people including myself still do, mostly on the large networks such as Kinetic.
The scene has mainly moved to 1.12.2 however, with smaller servers popping up. (Andronia, Towns & Kingdom's, etc.)
I still very much enjoy 1.7 and wish that it wasn't dying, but that's basically what has happened.

Literally every single pixelmon server is a cashgrab. If you are going to play pixelmon, I recommend doing it with a small group of friends on a private server.

The one I just said isn't lol, you can get very far without ever spending a dime. I have 12 bp legendaries and I haven't spent a single penny on the server
