Do they? Do people who open servers still have the chance to succeed? Any examples of recently opened servers that are doing well?
If you make a professional server then you are bound to be successful. I've seen noob servers that were posted on MSL and they got 20 players in the first 5 minutes. So if you prepare then there isn't a single doubt that your server will succeed.
TL;DR
Yes, there is a chance.
Depends what you call Succeed, PB of 50-100 or 500-1000?
If that's it, Then yes in my opinion being self sufficient isn't too hard.Pretty sure his definition of "success" is just a stable playerbase, and making enough money per month to keep the server up, and or whatever else you buy with the left over money.
You are wrong, when I was hired with AGP and working under management we hired multiple youtubers to record and stream live on our "New" network, Skyblocky. The 4 youtubers that were hired came on and recorded an episode or two, at least an hour long and we gained about 300+ players, 500 whilst streaming. I wouldn't recommend hiring youtubers unless you're pulling in more profits than what you're paying the youtuber.I think that to have a very successful server you need to have a big advertising budget & well made server or be a Youtuber owning the server (example TheCampingRusher). You will need to be very lucky to keep a playerbase without hiring youtubers and just hoping on Minecraft Server lists. The key is youtubers, in my opinion no matter how good or bad the server is, as long as big youtubers are recording on it frequently, It'll do well.
If you have money, yes. If you don't have money, probably not.
