If you make a professional server then you are bound to be successful. I've seen noob servers that were posted on MSL and they got 20 players in the first 5 minutes. So if you prepare then there isn't a single doubt that your server will succeed.

TL;DR
Yes, there is a chance.

Having a flush of people doesn't make you successful. Retaining a playerbase is what matters. People who are looking to hack, troll, or just be cunts scroll through the new servers on msl. No matter how good your server is, they aren't there to play.

Depends what you call Succeed, PB of 50-100 or 500-1000?

Pretty sure his definition of "success" is just a stable playerbase, and making enough money per month to keep the server up, and or whatever else you buy with the left over money.

If that's it, Then yes in my opinion being self sufficient isn't too hard.

I think that to have a very successful server you need to have a big advertising budget & well made server or be a Youtuber owning the server (example TheCampingRusher). You will need to be very lucky to keep a playerbase without hiring youtubers and just hoping on Minecraft Server lists. The key is youtubers, in my opinion no matter how good or bad the server is, as long as big youtubers are recording on it frequently, It'll do well.
You are wrong, when I was hired with AGP and working under management we hired multiple youtubers to record and stream live on our "New" network, Skyblocky. The 4 youtubers that were hired came on and recorded an episode or two, at least an hour long and we gained about 300+ players, 500 whilst streaming. I wouldn't recommend hiring youtubers unless you're pulling in more profits than what you're paying the youtuber.

For example: MeganPlays & AviatorGaming
Such a failure and a waste of funds.

If you have money, yes. If you don't have money, probably not.

It all depends on what you do. If you're creating just a normal simple MC server and you just do vote advertising, they don't usually succeed without some sort of paid advertising which can cost thousands if you want to get a decent amount of players. If you are to go into Modded Minecraft, you have much more of a high chance of succeeding. Me and my friend released our modpack 1 month and 3 days ago, after 2 and a half weeks of it being up, we reached #3 on technicservers.com and we had over 76 players online. Modded Minecraft is more of a reliable source as if people like your mod pack and you go trending, you will get players.
