Do VC's break McM rules?

Hey mcm,

Every couple days, I see someone get mad when people offer or request vouch copies. They normally say something along the lines of: "You cant offer vouches as a form of reputation." or "if you do that you will get banned."

These people are most likely citing rule 9.4 which states: "Do not use reputation as a currency, reward, condition, incentive, threat or deterrent."

My issue with this is that further up in the rules, in rule 5.7 it states you cannot ask for a VC unless the thread OP has specifically stated they are offering them.

I understand that vouch copies do not imply reputation, but they almost always do involve a positive rep. I personally do think they are allowed, but the rules do not make it very clear.

I just want some input on this and maybe if any staff could clarify that would be great!

5.7 Do not ask for vouch copies on a thread. If the author specifically states they're offering vouch copies, send a PM instead.


You cannot ask for a vouch copy on a thread, it has to be through the messaging system. Unless there is proof that the OP of the thread asked or hinted for the vouch to be in a reputation form, asking for vouch copies is allowed as long as it's done through the messaging system.

Yep, but I have seen people say when the owner offers VC's that it is not allowed.

A vouch doesn't have to be in the form of a reputation - it can be given in your thread, written on your profile etc.
The vouch can also be given with the reputation system, but you can't ask for it to be given with the reputation system.

Which means, you won't necessarily get your vouch as a reputation but as other forms as well.
