Do you guys think that schools nowadays are overstepping their boundaries when it comes to trying to handle their students? Should schools be allowed to administer punishments for incidents that occur outside of school? Has the term "bullying" been taken out of proportion?

Very curious as to what people think about this, and if anyone has any stories that kinda go hand in hand with any of the questions.

(Probably should've said this before but I'm mainly referring to schools within the United States, but if this applies to schools in other countries than by all means feel free to respond)

My friend was summoned to the police because he talked about his gf's ass in one of the group chats and someone happened to leak it.

Do you live in the U.S.? If so, I think those cops haven't heard of the first amendment....

My one ridiculous encounter with my high school's administration was when I called another student a "special snowflake" in class because all he did was whine about doing just about anything. The Assistant Principal who I dealt with immediately said I was a bully and that I was bullying this student. As such I got detention. Granted, I laughed in her face when she went over all of this with me because it was completely ridiculous so that probably had more to do with me getting detention than anything.[DOUBLEPOST=1556569743][/DOUBLEPOST]

Ah that explains it. I don't know any of the laws in Israel so I don't know how they go about handling such things.

Ye.
Like in my school two of my friends purposely went outside of the school to have a fight . So now they both thought that they both wouldnt get into any trouble with the school . Well somebody snitched and they both got in trouble . I personally think that the school shouldnt really butt in with what happens outisde the school , they should pay more attention to the things that they dont realise that happen INSIDE the school . They both got a 1 month suspension .

I've never trusted the school/educational system since my primary school days where I was bullied by my teachers constantly. This was when I was around the ages from 8-9 iirc.

I wrote an essay last year about how the public education system is failing and how kids are better off with alternative options. I could write a lot more about the subject but no one will read my post if I do that lmao.

One point I argued in that essay, was that in some cases kids can be better off not going to school at all rather than attending most public schools. How did I support that argument? With the fact that I (and other people I've known), have been able to attend college and earn their degrees without an HSD or GED. If that's possible and if alternative solutions actually work for some people, then that really says a lot.

However, I'm not saying that not going to school can work for everyone. Some people need institutionalized learning if they lack structure, discipline and/or guidance in their life. However, if that's what they need, it's quite obvious public schools are the worst option.

Online learning as well as vocational schools or other services (online or real life), can be way better and more fulfilling options to attain an education.

The school system is inefficient and flawed in SO many ways. I don't know where you go to where they consider "special snowflake" bullying, but where I live, it's basically just N-word controversy and teachers trying to ignore the student that just swore in front of them on accident.

I attended a fairly decent school. The only major problem with the school was just the administration which was filled with a bunch of incompetent teachers who thought they were Gods because of their position. In reality all of them are no better than car salesmen.

My school really reformed me for being a bully. They made me go to detention where we were allowed to use our phones. I’m pretty sure I watched Hacksaw Ridge.

Schools do have a issue with bullying, they say it's wrong, but do nothing about it.
I used to see it all the time in school, right in front of teachers and stuff, nothing done.

I’m honestly surprised nobody ever shot up my high school due to how people treated each other.

Uh well all the bathrooms on campus are locked down so kids don’t vape, like I get they’re trying to have a safe school environment but making us hold on our piss and shit for however many hours really isn’t effective. My schools punishments/reasons for punishments are insane, like I got detention for asking “stupid questions” during my science class and when I put my head down on my desk in class because I’m done with everything I need to do and the teacher isn’t teaching I get a detention because “it’s disrespectful to the teacher“

My school claims it’s a no tolerance zone and that any bullying will result in severe punishment but nobody has ever been punished even though many kids get bullied
