Recently I came up with a video idea in which it would indirectly promote a product. The video would not be made to specifically advertise the product, but instead, it would be made for content. My burning question is whether or not Mojang would allow real-life products (like a custom model in a resource pack) to be put in-game, and then used for video content. One thing to add is that the maker of the product would be in the video as well. I am not sure if that has an effect but I am putting it there in case that might be an issue.

Thanks in advance to anyone who helps enlighten me on this :D

Hard to say without more sepecifics, but my guess based on the current EULA: https://www.minecraft.net/en-us/eula

DISCLAIMER: I'm not a lawyer and this is not legal advise. If you want legal advise you should get a professional opinion.

So my opinion is that so long as you don't use the Minecraft brand or Minecraft assets to directly make money, baring the glarily obvious exceptions (guns etc) you should be okay.

You are allowed to modify the game and:
"Within reason you're free to do whatever you want with screenshots and videos of the Game. By "within reason" we mean that you can't make any commercial use of them or do things that are unfair or adversely affect our rights unless we've specifically said it's okay in this EULA, allowed it through the Brand and Asset Usage Guidelines, or provided for it in a specific agreement with you. If you upload videos of the game to video sharing and streaming sites you are however allowed to put ads on them. Also, don't just rip art resources and pass them around, that's no fun."

So if the video uses the Minecraft game and assets plus new ones you add, but you don't say "Minecraft endorses X" in your video and the video itself doesn't make you money (except ads), you should be okay.

I think I reasonable scenario if it all goes wrong is that Youtube or you get a takedown order from Microsoft lawyers or Youtube disables monetization.

One possible complication for your physical product brand:

There are some rights you grant Mojang/Microsoft when you put things in the game that you might not have the rights to transfer: "If you make any content available on or through our Game, you agree to give us permission to use, copy, modify, adapt, distribute, and publicly display that content." but if you are adding assets to the game just to make a video and not releasing the that content to the public this shouldn't really be an issue.

Also, not a lawyer, not legal advise, just opinion :D

In this sentence “but if you are adding assets to the game just to make a video and not releasing the that content to the public this shouldn't really be an issue.” does “that content” refer to the video I am recording or the additional assets I am putting in Minecraft?

Given the sentence give nby FiftyWalrus, it seems to me that it's both. Anything you create on minecraft (either video or something inside minecraft) can be claimed by Mojang. Does not necessary mean they'll do it (as it sends a bad message to the community, which remains a key driver for them), but still, it adds a little risk !
