Some servers will go out of their way to buy TLD's that are associated with their server, and others aren't really that bothered. The only time I've heard about a server doing somthing about someone using a similar domain was with a smaller server using an IP close to Mineplex's and then mineplex went full out thretaning legal action and issuing cease and dissists. there is even ones like google.uk CLEARLY google cant be copied but you can still buy the domain
Google will definately step on you if you try to use a domain that holds their trademarks. The servers have the full rights to sue you if you are infringing their copyright, but most of the time won't because of high legal costs/lazy owners.
So there is no point in buying domains that are very like or very close to big minecraft servers just find unique cools ones i guess?
By all means do it, just know the risks and be ready to give the domains up if a server initiates legal action.
