So apparently I need to download a form of Eclipse called Eclipse Neon for a java plugin tutorial i am doing but when i try and download it just downloads another installer for other random eclipse software. I am very confused. The tutorial is not the best and skips over the part how to download the right one does anyone know?

PebbleHost
High performance, consistent uptime and fast support. Minecraft hosting that just works.

Bymango I would suggest learning a programming language basics before jumping into an API like bukkit/spigot. You need to properly understand Object Oriented Programming before venturing into such a complex API. Surely, minecraft has a ton of examples and tutorials, but with that number comes a great percentage of very poorly made examples and lousy tutorials.

As for your IDE, a simple google search would render you with the official eclipse installation instructions for your chosen Operating System.

I'll even help you with that : http://www.eclipse.org/downloads/eclipse-packages/?osType=macosx&release=undefined

Choose the Eclipse IDE for Java Developers and press the orange "64 bit". That will start the download.

http://wiki.eclipse.org/Eclipse/Installation <- Installation Guide for Mac

I would suggest going with Eclipse Oxygen, as it is the latest release and it has features that will aid you greatly, especially as a beginner.

Surely, you can learn how to code a plugin and skid your way around without prior Java knowledge. But to use the API to its full extent, you need to understand how to properly use the tools given and the way the code can be used to create and modify content. The course you are following gets you through the basics, but it lacks a lot of information that you need to know in order to be a good programmer. If you have any questions, feel free to ask me.
