Hey guys,
So I'm thinking about mining for Ethereum. I have a build in mind, but I need a little more information on solo-mining versus pool mining.

Here are some of my questions:
  1. Does pool mining reduce profits?
  2. What are the chances of a pay out when solo-mining with my build?
  3. Should I swap out my Radeon RX 480s for RX 580s?

And the biggest question of all:
Is it even worth it to start mining?

I know bitcoin is basically pointless to mine, but Ethereum seems promising.

Thanks in advance for all of your input.

Did you even check the rx 480s? They're out of stock, they don't even make them anymore. rx 580s are also hard to find available, due to everyone buying them out to mine with.

Also i'm pretty sure ethereum is switching to proof of stake instead of proof of work. Not sure when, but with that you won't be able to mine it anymore and will have to switch to other coins.

Good luck

To be honest, I wouldn't start mining. It is already too late unless you get free electricity. The best way is on Genesis where you buy a mine for a fixed price for 2 years. You will make back the costs in a little more than a year. That is the best option at the moment because mining high valued coins like Ethereum and Bitcoin is already being done by rigs 100x bigger than yours. Just my input, feel free to disregard it if you want.
