Hey! So I have a couple of questions about the Minecraft EULA. If any users out there know the answers, then it would be greatly appreciated if you could comment and answer my questions for me.

So First question:
Am I allowed to sell ranks that gives players unfair advantages, IF this rank can be grinded for in-game? Meaning if players can save up say 100 in-game tokens or in-game dollars and buy this rank in-game, can I sell it in the store? So that players wouldn't need to do the grinding.

Second question:
My friend said that the Minecraft EULA isn't really a concern, as Minecraft servers don't affiliate with MojangAB. If this is true, does this mean that I don't have to worry about breaking the EULA? Or what does this mean?

If anyone out there would be so kind as to answer these questions for me, that'd be great.

Thanks! ~Freaky

Obviously it's a risk, and you can face being terminated - very unlikely - I mean look a multiple servers - CosmicPvP - a server that is very pay2win, or was. So I mean I wouldn't worry about it.

If you want to make a quick buck, sure break the EULA but don't complain when you get blacklisted.

If you want to build a long living community, without the risk of getting destroyed, follow the EULA.

What would be a risk? I wasn't sure if you were answering the first or the second question. I do know now that you cannot breaking the eula. (Second question) But as for the first question, can I sell ranks that have unfair advantages (Such as /fly, /home, ect..) If those same ranks are available via in-game currency?

First Question
I believe you can sell ranks you can obtain with in game money in your store

Second Question
False, You should follow the EULA just to be safe

Thank you for the response Zelda. I just want a few more peoples opinions. But yours is one for the books. Thanks for the quick response. :D

Yes, you can for sure, if you can get them in game.

This is actually NOT allowed.

EULA states these advantages must be obtained equally so someone can't spend say $10 IRL on the rank rather than grinding for it in-game. Everyone has to get it the same way so everyone would have to grind for it.

Not sure why everyone seems to think this is allowed... It's not and anyone could ask Mojang themselves as it has been clarified in a Spigot post previously when breaking the EULA would result in a blacklist.

The EULA is a concern as you have agreed to the agreement when setting up a server. They don't enforce it too much anymore so you may as well risk it nowadays unless you're planning to be the next big network. Not sure what your friend is talking about with them not being affiliated, obviously doesn't know what they're talking about.

To be honest, EULA is only a problem once your server is on a large scale. And also, Minecraft Servers are affiliated with Mojang AB as to create one you automatically agree to the EULA terms.

Alright, so would their be ANY way for me to sell ranks that have commands such as /fly then?

Like this idea:
I had an idea were when someone buys a crate key, the whole server gets the a key. But, inside the crates **ARE** ranks that have commands such as /fly. Would this be allowed?

Yes, this would be allowed as everyone gets a key.

There wouldn't be any way for you to sell ranks however with /fly. You would be able to sell timed access to it though (one user buys fly for the whole server for 24 hours or something like that) but I'm not sure this is the best idea for revenue.

Alright. Then what would be my best bet at making revenue on a factions server? Either way, me selling ranks wouldn't of worked out anyways cause I am trying to create a fun and competitive factions server, but in an environment where people can't just buy things and win the map. I want it to be fair for all users, so what would be the best things to sell for a factions server without breaking the EULA?

Cosmetics only like trails, maybe global MCMMO boosts? Keys, tags, nicknames, commands such as /seen that don't give any advantage over other players.

To be honest though, as a factions server, you won't make much money following the EULA. When I converted my store to EULA compliant perks, revenue dropped to pretty much 0 from $500 a month at the time. Factions players tend to like pay to win from my experience of running one for 3 years.

I understand that you want to make it a fair environment but I wouldn't recommend following the EULA as a small server, it'll kill it off and we've all seen plenty of servers that have suffered from it. I suggest you try to make the ranks not so overpowered but you can still have some aspect of pay to win perks inside such as /fly or a little bit better of a kit where maybe other players can get the same kit from crates as well.

Hope this helps.

1. You are not allowed to sell it in the store.

2. EULA isn't a big concern in a sense that mojang doesn't enforce it heavily. The most you'll get is a blacklist which can be bypassed.

In the end, it's up to you to make the decision, there will always be a slight risk to breaking EULA terms.

Alrighty then. I'm currently not sure what I will do then, cause I based the rest of the server I want to build around non-P2W. Thanks for all the help guys. If I have any further questions I will post on this thread again. :D

Thanks! ~Freaky

For the first, yes, you can. For the second, your friend has no clue what he's talking about. Try your best to obey EULA or suffer LEGO- I mean Mojang's wrath.
