Hi,

The limits on resources can be very restricting, so I found a way we could include external links without any increased risk.

If we take for example mediafire, you can't actually edit an already uploaded file, so the argument that people could change this is moot.

The remaining argument is that the link could die or be removed, but if MCM had some sort of way to scan a link before a user purchases it, then it's guaranteed there won't be any issues with that.

Another but kinda stupid argument is that people could upload a virus. All resources are monitored anyway and can continue to be it's not different to the system now. Not to mention resources already uploaded on here can be changed without moderation so anyone can upload a virus after it's been verified.

Let me know if you see any potential flaws with this.

*obviously we'd have to have a list of verified sites you can do this on

Doesnt work out , each time you wanted to update something a resource moderator would have to look at it
MC-Market doesnt have the ability to check the link beforehand

Just follow my advice use shoppy with a gift-code system

You know changes to resources on here aren't even moderated, I can update my resource without someone checking if it's okay I've already done it

Also the suggestion is make something that can check the link, so saying they can't already do it is the whole point of this suggestion xd

Yeah exactly if you would change your mediafire link to something else noone would ever know it , if you did it on mc-market they would have proof that you did it

You can't change a mediafire link, and if you mean change the link in the file, you'd have to reupload it to mcm and then there would be proof

God.... example your first download link is /world1 then after a day or two you publish an update which means that you have to upload it all over again which would be link /world2 , /world2 wouldnt be checked by any staff member and you can easily put in there whatever you want , now if you did that on mc-m they would have proof of you doing that , on mediafire they wouldnt.

Use .schematic?

Let me give you an example;

I upload a resource that's a mediafire link

I now can not change this mediafire link to anything else (on the mediafire site, it doesn't let you change uploaded files)

I CAN however change the link on MCM to a different link if I edit the resource, for example if I wanted to roll out an update, but then MCM does have proof of me changing the link

So it's exactly the same risks that the current system poses

http://blog.mediafire.com/2010/08/update-an-existing-url-with-a-new-file/

Even if Mediafire didn’t allow for files to be updated/modified after being uploaded, MC-Market cannot depend on them to always maintain that policy. They’re their own company, completely uncontrolled by us. If they suddenly changed policies or granted new abilities that we couldn’t allow, all resources with external links would need to be taken down. Depending on how many people decided to use external links instead of MCM uploads at that point in time, that could have a major impact on our entire community.

However, to address this point:
The remaining argument is that the link could die or be removed, but if MCM had some sort of way to scan a link before a user purchases it, then it's guaranteed there won't be any issues with that.

That is not the main problem. The issue is that we need to have a record of the files, so that we can check them in case a report is made. Not just malware reports, but also distributing unowned content reports, and also scam reports, where buyers claim the product was not as described.
If the file gets deleted, then we have no record.

The only way to resolve that is to have the file hosted by us.

Yeahh Toxic made the point you could remove it from mediafire right after it sold so I guess this suggestion is irrelevant now
