Me personally, I don't think it's needed. No one checks reputation lol. They check their profile, vouches, and rep lol. This isn't a suggestion to remove it, just some feedback from me.

at the moment, it is true nobody checks it. However, it is possible people will start checking it eventually. So far, it seems to be a good way to leave feedback for a user that cannot simply be removed by the user. Of course this allows for abuse as well, but that seems to be minimal so far.
