Hiya folks,

If you're active in the Suggestions forum you would have likely seen us allude towards the implementation of a proper filtering system for threads and resources on the site. It's a feature we're extremely excited about and the improvement to usability for all users will undoubtedly be a huge benefit of our platform. Over the past few days, the team and I have been looking into appropriate filters to set up in each location, because they are quite flexible and can essentially be implemented however we want. I've been focusing on planning the resource filters recently but once this has been sorted next I'll do thread filters and likely make a thread about that as well.

To briefly explain the filtering system, the way it will work is when creating a thread or resource there'll be additional fields to fill out that is required. The authors of threads or resources created before the implementation of the system will be able to edit their content to fill out the filtering details. In resources, on each category, we're trying to make it as easy as possible for buyers to find what they're looking for and hopefully, it'll make more sense once you've read the proposed filters

So with resources, we're planning on making significant changes to the categorisation of products. A list of changes from our current system is as follows. We have:
  1. Merged the Schematics and Worlds categories together and will be allowing users to filter between whether they're wanting schematics or worlds
  2. Prefixed the Plugins, Builds, and Setups categories with "MC" to make it more clear to non-Minecraft players what they're for
  3. Split Bots & Programs into two separate categories since it doesn't make sense for them to be together, especially considering how well both categories are growing
  4. Downgraded Skripts from being its own category to be a filterable option within Configurations
  5. Renamed Bots to Discord Bots for clarity
  6. Added a new Models category

A list of our proposed filters are as follows:

MC PLUGINS:
  • Supported Software (Bukkit / Spigot / Paper / Sponge / Bungee / Other)
  • Supported Versions (1.8 / 1.9 / 1.10 / 1.11 / 1.12 / 1.13 / 1.14 / 1.15 / 1.16 / 1.17)
  • Price Range (Between X and Y)

MC BUILDS:
  • Type (Hubs / Skyblock / Survival / Factions / Prison / PVP / Minigames / Terrain / Other)
  • File Format (Schematic / World)
  • Supported Versions (1.8 / 1.9 / 1.10 / 1.11 / 1.12 / 1.13 / 1.14 / 1.15 / 1.16 / 1.17)
  • Price Range (Between X and Y)

MC SETUPS:
  • Gamemode (Hub / Factions / Skyblock / Prison / Survival / Minigames / Other)
  • Supported Software (Bukkit / Spigot / Paper / Sponge / Other)
  • Supported Versions (1.8 / 1.9 / 1.10 / 1.11 / 1.12 / 1.13 / 1.14 / 1.15 / 1.16 / 1.17)
  • Price Range (Between X and Y)

GRAPHICS:
  • Type (Still TBD)
  • Style (Illustrated / Vector / Motion / Pixel Art / Rendered)
  • Price Range (Between X and Y)

MODELS:
  • Type (MC Mobs / MC Blocks / MC Items / Other)
  • Price Range (Between X and Y)

CONFIGURATIONS:
  • Type (Plugin Configuration / Server Configuration / Skripts / Other)
  • Price Range (Between X and Y)

WEBSITES:
  • Type (Standalone / Theme / Addon)
  • Platform (Tebex / XenForo / Pterodactyl / Ghost / Enjin / CraftingStore / Other)
  • Price Range (Between X and Y)

DISCORD BOTS:
  • Type (Corebot Addon / Other Bot)
  • Price Range (Between X and Y)

PROGRAMS:
  • Price Range (Between X and Y)

OTHER:
  • Price Range (Between X and Y)

The list above is certainly far from perfect, which is why we're bringing it to the community to get your input before we properly implement it. What do you think? Any ideas would be greatly appreciated (even if they're telling us all the reasons why I'm bad)

Thanks folks,
Micky

Personally I really like the idea of a proper filter system through resources and threads and think in general it's a really useful tool.

For example, if I run a 1.8.8 KitPvP server, if I can select the version 1.8 as a filter and then not be shown all the 1.9+ plugins that don't support 1.8 that's dramatically saving me as a consumer of the product time and therefore find it massively beneficial. I think it's a great system as not only that but building onto a filter system to add more options in the future should be relatively simple allowing there to be a bridging system between client and buyer.

I personally like anything that would save me, the consumer, time and effort so I'm all for this idea and think it's a fantastic quality of life change.

Great idea. Only thing I would say is a thread lookup where we can look up a thread by the name of the thread (or possibly even key words inside the thread) just so if I am looking for a thread I made a while ago or I forgot the thread section but remember key words you can get to it easier. But I think this is a great idea.

Minigames Section! No longer will I have to spend eons looking for one anymore :D We also need KitPvP ^-^ (don't run a KitPvP server but they're good to reuse for minigames :p)

Adding new filters will of course be a matter of simply configuring them, but there is a significant downside to making any changes to our filtering system once it's released. Whenever we update our filtering system we'll need our authors or thread creators to go through and manually adjust the filters one-by-one for all of their content that they want to be filterable. If I was an author with 20+ addons and several times a month I had to go through my products to update them I'd be pretty annoyed, so it definitely does need to be fully thought through before implementation.

The search functionality of threads and resources will still exist for those sorts of things. In fact, these filters do also work on the search page so you could for example search for all of your builds that are 1.8 compatible for Skyblock with "Island" in the title and it'll return a nice list.

I was contemplating adding a 'PVP' category for MC Setups but thought it may lead to more confusion because then gamemodes like Skywars and Bedwars would fit into both and we want people to only be selecting one gamemode for that field. KitPvP wouldn't have that problem, but my concern is whether there's enough demand for KitPvP in setups. What do you think?

Personally I don't mind KitPvP in replace of PvP. Skywars & Bedwars ALWAYS and I mean ALWAYS are put into the Minigames section on any build store that I can think of. I think the demand for KitPvP setups are low and there aren't many which is okay to not include for setups but definitely for Builds I think it's a good idea to include it and remove PvP as duel arenas are the only thing that really go into the PvP section and there isn't a lot of demand for that right now.

Okay, yeah I totally get that, it would be annoying to have to updates threads and resources frequently. I love the system in general and like to see all of the work and process going on to improve the site. Thanks for the response.
