Recently my life has been very boring. In this period of boredom I began a project server
that was originally just something to do, but I think it could actually be a fun and challenging experience and I was wondering if anyone might have interest in the server. If it were to get enough interest I'd be willing to invest more time and some money into and actually make it something players could enjoy.
Here are some details about the server's current and planned gameplay features.
SaigaMc features a large, ready to upscale map. The map current playable zones include a large city, many small towns and groups of houses, some trails connecting it all together, and large dense forests and plains.
Within the buildings of the city and towns are chests that restock with items such as guns & ammunition, armor, food, raw materials & blocks (iron, gold, diamonds, Redstone, wooden logs, cobble stone, etc). Loot is currently individual for each player and restocks every 24 hours. Most of the loot is sporadic with only a few chests in each building, but there are a few locations with large chest amounts which are guarded by Bandits powered by AI. Additionally, an airdrop will be dropped somewhere within the city periodically (currently undetermined) containing higher tier loot, announcing its coordinates to incite competition for the loot. All towns and trails are claimed as Warzones which disallows building, breaking blocks, and claiming bases for factions.
The wilderness (areas that are not the main city, towns, or trails) offer a similar experience to vanilla Minecraft, allowing players to build & claim bases, go mining, cut down trees, you know, the standard Minecraft factions experience.
The server also features custom zombies, and "hellhounds." There are various types of zombies, some are slow with high damage and heath, some are fast with low damage and normal health, some are just regular old zombies. Hellhounds are wolves that spawn already aggressive towards all players. These dogs are a bit faster than normal wolves and will stop at nothing to kill you.
I plan to also include a vehicles system allowing for faster travel across the map via cars, boats, and even helicopters and airplanes. Whether these vehicles will include weaponry will depend on community feedback and my ability to program.
We would also be running events offering rewards either in-game or via irl payments or donation store credits.
Should this project become an actual server, I'm of course open to all feature suggestions and will be including lots of polls to ensure every feature is something a majority of the community would enjoy. As someone who has played on servers where the community is ignored and watched really cool concepts die out because of poorly designed features, community feedback would be a very important component to releasing and updating this server.
As for plans on making money off of this. I have no intentions on profiting off of this server. Running it would be a fun project and that is enough for me. Though earning enough in donations to pay off the server hosting would be nice, I don't have a problem hosting it out of pocket unless it gets too expensive. The server would feature 100% cosmetic donation features such as chat prefixes, trails, etc. Nothing that can be bought with irl money would provide any advantage in-game.
I plan to run the server in seasons, resetting it every few months or so. After a season or two of beta I would be open to considering IRL money payments via PayPal to the top faction.
