Hello everyone,
I travel alot and i don’t like carrying an external ssd with me so i was wondering what a simple designed website would cost that would make me able to:
Upload files from anywhere
Download files from anywhere
Delete files from anywhere

But only when logged in ofcourse.

It isn't really hard to make the site itself but depending on how much you plan on uploading you will need a large machine to host the site and said files

would take 10 bucks a month for a VPS and an hour. You could easily build this in Laravel.

I thought it about it some more, you could just install an FTP Server on your computer (https://filezilla-project.org/ for Windows, https://security.appspot.com/vsftpd.html for Linux) and just set up a folder for the FTP server to work off of and just connect your computer at home whenever your out.

The only negatives to this are that you would have to open a Port which is not secure on a home network. If you wanted to you could buy the VPS and just use FileZilla to connect and drag and drop files.

If you wanted to make it a website is just cause you want to be fancy and allow all devices to connect.

Others would argue that you could just use the public_html dir on your webserver. But then they would be open to the world wide web. So I would use a Framework that has a handy feature like Laravel's Storage Facade(https://laravel.com/docs/5.7/filesystem).

But again I dont think this needs to be a full blown website.

If your looking for a more do-it-yourself, setup a Raspberry Pi, and attach a drive to it. Install some free file manager software for example OwnCloud.

Just leave the device running in a safe location and make sure you have setup your network to allow external access.

The only cost you have to worry about is the electricity, which will be minor anyways.
