My first song in this rap/lo-fi hip-hop or whatever genre this is (Someone lmk please)

I wrote and recorded everything myself.
The first verse was improvised filler vocals.
The second verse was an attempt at improvised filler vocals but ended up just being mumbling.

Be very critical please and thank you :)

Hey!

For a first song, the flow is decent, but...
  • It's so monotone. Maybe try layering your vocals (and recording each layer, instead of copy pasting)
  • The lowpitched accents seem like they are fighting for the center spot, maybe use a stereo shaper/Wider to push them out
If you're trying to mask your voice, you're doing good, haha. But, it sounds like you removed all the (natural)-vibratto. You can get this sound, but, leave some in, and increase the Humanise so it sounds natural. The delays could use some tweaking.

The beat sounds like it's in D. So, you could find the relative minor scale, and then use the pentatonic scale to limit the notes you tune/use to further mask your voice without it being too roboty.

Here's my advice! I only mean this as means of being constructive, not to tear you apart, but as a music producer of six years, here are several things that stood out immediately.

I can't hear the drums, they need to be fixed in the mix;
shakers are WAY too loud
mix needs more mid lows and lows

as far as the vocal processing:
needs more lows; the high pass needs on the EQ needs to be a little better. It almost sounds like you put a EQ on the master cutting out all the lows?
Tone down the reverb A TON; it's wayyy to wet. Honestly, it sounds like you put reverb on the master - this is a common mistake. Put it on a separate bus.

As far as song structure, I thought the guitar rift was a highlight in the song, but I think maybe switching it out and varying it here and there would keep the track more interesting.
If you fixed the mixing job with the drums to bring them out better, then this could have a better vibe / groove; right now I'm struggling to hear some of the most important aspects of the song

I'm not sure what DAW you're using, but another common mistake on FL Studio particularly is that people often have the limiter enabled, and then everything starts to smoosh down, and that could be a culprit for the inaudible drums. I highly recommend gain-staging low and bringing up in the mastering stage if you haven't done that already.

All the best,
David D.

Thanks! I'll work on these aspects of the mix. I'm using Studio One 4 Professional as my DAW.

Honestly?

It's promising but far from ideal imo.
Background music is to loud, can barely even understand what you are saying, now i know that often is the case with Rap music in general, but i literally could understand like 2 words. So maybe adjust that?

The beat is cool, a bit plain, but cool nonetheless!

Thanks, man! It's my first time writing anything close to this style lol. Its takes practice but I just wanted to see where I stand at 0.
I've been working on new stuff with more less-plain beats and such. I'm also still working on lyrics for this and adjusting the mix a bit.

It was pretty good in my opinion

However...

In the rap part of the song, I feel like you could've maybe made your voice a tad bit louder and maybe drop one of the instruments.
