First time playing with Pixel Art on Photoshop

Can I get some feedback on these pictures? Keep in mind this is literally my first time messing with GFX related art on Photoshop. I'm an average web designer attending a Technical College for Web Development and GFX is not my strong suit. I just made these today and decided to give digital art (pixel art) an attempt. Opinions?

The real question here is should I keep practicing or give up because personally I suck massive **** at digital art imo

First attempt: (some guy with brown hair)

Tbh those look pretty good if this is your first attempt then you definitely have a hidden talent for this type of thing.

I agree the background is a little off but it was just trial and error. I personally don't like that as well. I appreciate the kind words

This feedback from people are surprising. It truly felt like I didn't do a very good job... I just made a silhouette and worked off that by making the edges and then polishing it by my attempt at shading.

I feel very motivated to keep practicing with this. I'm currently doing research on tuts and guides to improve my skills. Pixel Art actually sounds very exciting and I want to see how I can improve. I'll post another thread when I have new designs.

you could use some more gradient practice.
I recommend that instead of going for full figures, you try shading a line, then a box, then a cube, cylinder, cone and sphere in pixels. After that, start practicing more organic shapes, and you'll be able to make actual higher-res pixelart.
