Fortnite account Merging

Anyone know how it works exactly. Need a more in-depth explanation!

All I know so far;
You cannot merge xbox with xbox, ps4 with ps4 etc..

The main reason this was released is for ppl that had an awesome account on one console and moved to another and they need to merge them and choose one primary one *i think* xd i read a bit on it before

made primarily for playstation users who created another account to play on the nintendo switch, because you used to be able to not log in with a ps4 account on switch.

I think I read something that said the account needed to be created before September 2017, I'm not sure if this means the account you want to merge or your own.
