I know that many of you know the process of buying and selling Fortnite accounts and I know that many of you do it. I myself also do it as well, however, I want to make some people aware of some of the issues regarding the selling and buying of accounts. This is just a small article on how to be more protected as the buyer and also as the seller when buying any accounts.
Buying Accounts
When buying accounts the first thing you want to ensure is if the person that is trying to sell the account to you is legit. The first way of doing this is by ensuring the person is reputable. This is quite easy to look out for as all you have to do is click on their name and click 'Reputation Overview'. Obviously this plays a big part on if the person is a scammer or not, however, be warned people with high reputation can still be scammers!
Next, you want to ensure the account you are buying is legit. Simply ask for the name of the account and search other forums to see if the account has been sold before. It is recommended that you do not buy an account that has been brought and sold multiple times as this increases the chance of the account getting permanently banned from Fortnite Servers. If the person refuses to send over the account name then it has a higher potential of being a scam.
Also, there are a few tactics in which people can do to get a skin on an account such as editing the game files, I understand Epic Games (Developers of Fortnite) have got a little more strict on people editing the files and it is now against their T&Cs of playing the game to do so. However, people still do it as there is a consequence of a 38 temporary ban (First Offence). But what this means is there is a way you can replace one of your skins with a skin you do not have in the game, for example, replacing the Rust Lord with Skull Trooper skin in game. This exploit allows you to use the skin in the lobby, however, not in game. You can see the skin in your inventory and it looks 100% legit and is bannable. How do you resolve this issue? You ask them to go into a game with the specific skin on i.e. Skull Trooper and take a screenshot with the name and skin included.
Always use a middleman! It reduces the chance of you getting scammed significantly, make sure they are reputable. More information below!
Another issue, buying and selling accounts is against Epic Games terms of service guidelines and it does result in a permanent ban of the account so be careful! There is always a risk, but does not always mean you will get caught.
Selling Accounts
As anyone will know there are many scammers on this forums, nothing we can do about that, same with any forums. However, there are many things you can do to decrease the chance of getting scammed when selling!
Use a middleman, this is one of the most important thing when you are selling an account and significantly reduces the chance of you getting scammed as a seller. For example, if you agree to sending over the account before the buyer sends the money over. However, with a middleman you are able to get the buyer to send the money to a middleman and then the middleman will tell you that they have received the money! Once the middleman tells you that they have you then send the buyer the details to the account and then the middleman will send you the money. Clean process, right? Well yes! As long as you use a reputable middleman, it is normally better if the buyer decides the middleman as it is their money. If you get a reputable middleman then it should be a clean process.
Ensure the buyer is legit and ask what their intentions are when using the account, it is always nice to know where your account is going as you do not want to see all of that hard work go down the drain for no reason. However, as soon as the account is sold it is out of your reach do to anything.
I am personally not as much of a seller myself so I cannot include much more information on selling, however, if you have any questions or want to add anything feel free to leave them below!
Stay safe
Many thanks,
Josh
