Oh, wish I knew how to do that- haven't found any good tutorials from a VPS besides just purchasing hosting through a multicraft panel; thanks for the good wishes!

I can help you out. How much ram does your PC have or, do you have a spare laptop?

Currently 8GB- do have a old laptop with 4GB ;3

Both are fine. You can dedicate all your ram on your laptop then, PuTTy into the VPS and control is from your desktop

And just connect through localhost or will I need to portforward? I have experience with VPS hosting for websites and such with php etc. but how exactly would I host the server?

You will need a VM machine which you can get off the net. install a OS (I like CentOS). Install CentOS on to the VM. Install all the packages and etc. "ip addr" to get your localhost IP. open putty on your desktop. use the localhost IP. then you're done. for you to connect, You will need to add IPtables.
