Hey guys, I'm interested in starting a mc server host ( whoa I know ) , but instead of paying for the host, you rack up credits in another way.

So- what do you guys think of this concept?

Right off the bat, the user can get a 512MB server for free, and he doesn't have to do much of anything other than that, said user can just get working on their server right off the bat, the only difference is, on the back-end, advertising slots will be sold to other services, say to an alt shop for example. The alt shop then submits a maximum of 40 characters advertising their alt shop, which is then posted in server chat every 10 minutes. This little bit of ad revenue generated by selling these ads will be used to keep the server running.

However, the user can upgrade to a 1GB server, but they have to put in some effort for this. The user will receive a referral link, and then through that link, must generate at least 30 visits to the website each month, and at least 1 new sign-up. ( ads will still be displayed in their server )

At a 2GB server, the user has to generate 75 visits / month, and at least 2 new sign ups each month to keep their server running. Ads will still be displayed in server chat, but they can opt out of this, but if they do, they have to generate at least 125 visits / month , and 3 new sign ups each month.

So, what do you guys think of this concept?

This just seems like to get a bigger server, You get more referrals + ads showing that you're hosted by this host, How will you actually gain any money?

I've noticed this a fair bit, People starting a host for the fun of it, Just to start one to get some customers and then shut it down after a month or two, This model seems to lead exactly to that, You've got no way of earning any money from it, Just plans to get customers to make it bigger, Then once you run out of money to pay for the node bills as you've got no way of generating revenue off your plan - You'll stop paying node bills and it will shutdown.

TLTR;
This just seems like a way for you to grow a host then shut it down after a month as you're going to run out of money as the host doesn't generate any revenue so you'll be paying with your own money.

As stated in the thread, advertising will be sold to other mc related servers , which will then be displayed in servers say every 10 minutes. There will also be advertisments on the website, and as the user has to generate visits, itt will generate a bit of ad revenue. This isn't targeted towards bigger server owners but more towards first time owners. The purpouse is to instead of having the user pay for the server, have them generate ad revenue

So you're telling me - People are going to advertise other servers on their own server? Pretty dam absurd.

You're going to struggle to get the full cost of a 1GB Server from 30 views of an ad per month, Thousands of views get a few dollars, Not a few hundred.

No, not other servers. Other services, say an alt shop. An alt shop might buy ads, and pay say, $1 / 300 displays. Whilst not much, it would cover the price of the server.

Do you really think someone will pay $1/300 displays, Lets work this out;
6 Displays per hour, 24 hours in a day meaning 144 displays per server per day - Lets say you've got 2 servers doing that, Theres your 300 displays (roughly) - Now, lets think you've got 2x1GB Servers, how many different players are going to be on the 2 servers combined across the 24 hours? 50 at most?

Lets say you've got a 2% CTR (which is above average) that means for the advertisers $1 they'll get 1 Click, off that 1 click do you think they'll generate any revenue? No, probably not - Most conversion rates that I know of from advertising like this give something around a 20% conversion rate, Meaning it will cost them $5 to possibly get a $0.10 alt purchase.

What I'm getting at here is that you're Just not going to get enough money from willing reliable advertisers to keep this going.

Anyways, Just putting my point in here, I don't think its going to work with the way you're suggesting the ads that you will get will not generate enough money for the node bills.

I agree with Dann on this because if you do kinda host like server.pro they are able to offer the free servers because they are having the premium servers being able to generate enough money it can pay for the free servers .

To be honest this idea seems like what triangle.gs and other horrid free hosts have tried and failed. Unless you already own a host with dedicated servers to basically give away and can develope it all yourself there isn’t really a point to this. It’s more than likely you’ll shut down a month or two after opening. Also, no one wants any type of advertising on their servers.
