Hate speech is typically when you target certain groups of people and belittle them or demean them. Often times derogatory words are used to label these groups. Hate speech today however is being misconstrued on a daily basis. Simply saying something mildly offensive or politically incorrect is now being classified as hate speech by a certain left-wing groups. Take Germany for example. Right-wing groups are trying to run in elections on the idea that Germany should be kept German and that the government shouldn’t prioritize immigrants over its own citizens. The media immediately labeled them as neo nazis and claimed they were preaching hate speech.

Freedom of speech is an opinion being voiced by the person. Hate speech is implying something as true and then using it against someone. Hate speech often has a lot of prejudice.

I wouldn’t say hate speech is implying something as true. Liberals implied that Donald Trump colluding with Russia was the truth and they used that against him since the beginning of his presidency. That doesn’t classify as hate speech in the slightest.

Hate speech can be either. Donald trump's colluding with russia was pointed out by every media with no proof at all, no conclusive proof.
I'm right wing so i'm trying to keep my opinion out of this.

Yes, it is. Hate speech is attacking someone. But then everyone sees something different as hate speech and then there are always exceptions. I still think my definition entails most of the hate speech out there.

Imo, free speech means not that you're free to say whatever you want, wherever and whenever you want, but it means that you cannot be arrested/prosecuted by the government for voicing an opinion.
Hate speech, however, is more than simply an opinion. Its a derogatory description of a specific group of people that incites discrimination or violence against that group of people.

Example: "I dislike all Muslims" is not hate speech. It's an opinion that, while potentially controversial, shortsighted, biased, etc is not illegal to have, and thus you should not be prosecuted for it. That does NOT mean, however, that any privately owned platform is forced to let you use their platform to share that opinion. They have every right to ban you from their platform if they so wish, as long as there's a clause in their ToS that allows them to. At that severity, though, most self-respecting platforms won't ban you, since they'd start losing a lot of their userbase. This is also what gives the space for cyberbullying etc. (Oh, and those saying that people should simply not go on social media if you're getting cyberbullied, I dare you to spend a month without any social media interaction whatsoever. That includes Whatsapp or anything that requires an internet connection to communicate).

Example 2: "I think all Muslims are goat-fucking scum that should be kicked out of any self-respecting country" IS hate-speech, as it's both openly derogatory and incites discrimination or violence against the target group. This is the sort of 'opinion' that you could theoretically get arrested for, though if you stop after "Goat-fucking scum", it becomes debatable and will likely depend on the country, region and possibly the individual court case.

Now, if there are countries that disagree with me either way (thinking example 1 is hate speech or example 2 is NOT), that's up to them. I'll simply have to make sure I don't spend too much time in one of them and minimize my association with them.[DOUBLEPOST=1559128596][/DOUBLEPOST]

Hm, yours is from a bit of a different angle than mine, but I think by the examples I used we're both talking about effectively the same thing.

Hate speech is a direct incitement to violence or basically use derogatory words. Freedom of speech imo is basically anything outside of that, however the line between the two is severely blurred.
