Hello MC-M,
So for a long time, I have wanted to start a Minecraft Server (like a professional one) and after doing a ton of research I realized that it would potentially cost thousands to get it off the ground with no guarantee of success. The problem is that I don't have thousands to blow on something like this and I don't know where to get the money. I am ineligible to use the Investments section and I would need a way to pay people back to that would be a bad idea. Is it possible to get a server off the ground without spending tons of money? What would be the most practical solution to this issue?

Thanks,
XER0

There's no good way to get a server off the ground without money. If you have any good skills like coding or advertisement you might be able to partner with someone but in my experience, partnerships usually fail though.
solution : dont make a minecraft server
amateur servers are dying and playercounts of proffesional servers are rising, you will not succeed likewise.
Exactly

If you really want to make a server even if you know your chances suck, it would be wise to have some form of consistent income first.

Exactly exactly, unless you have money, and a fair bit of it, to spare on advertising, hosting, development costs, etc. Don't, the market is totally saturated, and you'll only be throwing your money away.

Exactly as I had initially believed, I think that It would be best to stay away from the idea unless I have the money to do it. My best bet if anything, would probably be a whitelisted SMP or something along those lines.

Basically, don't assume your server will be profitable. Run it as a hobby project you're planning to pay for out of pocket, and any donations or other income just means you have a little less to spend that month. Otherwise, don't bother, as others have said.

Start off small. I see way too many people wanting to immediately dump thousands of dollars into servers that 90% of the time never make it off the ground. Start by making a smaller server and spending a few hundred dollars or so. Then slowly progress and build your network.
