If you’re starting a server, an original idea can help. I’d start with possible currencies - could you add a currency used to buy something like a rank that is normally not purchasable in game. Perhaps add challenges, where you progress through tiers and when you do, you get a daily reward for being on the tier you are. E.G If you are on tier 5 from completing challenges, you get 5 of the custom currency that can buy ranks or other items per day. If you are on tier 10, though you get 10 of the currency per day. This encourages players to return. Perhaps invest in advertising to get an audience in the first place.

It really depends on how custom you want to go with it. What i mean by this is we can all suggest simple "Custom" ideas to skyblock like challenges, other forms of economies etc. but they aren't really Custom or unique as someone else has already done it due to the amount of Skyblock servers that already exist. If you really want to make it custom and unique, I would take a whole new path on what skyblock is, in the sense that it is normally a grinding gamemode where you afk or mine to get ores to place and level up, but what if you made it so that ores/blocks for your /is level were gained through pvp? or some other form of ingame activity that you need to be ACTIVE and ATTENTIVE for. This would for one, make your community more active as they would need to be online to do well, rather than afk with alts, and also make what you're doing unique.

Add an option where everyone can connect their islands together and whichever group has the most faction value wins a prize. Kinda like factions and Skyblock merged together.

If you are looking for unique ideas you need to think outside the box, what thing would you love to see on a skyblock server for example I wanted to see Money Generators (Villagers that made you money for every (amount of time) they were on your island while you were withing (amount of blocks) of them.) It all depends on what sort of things your going for, do you want an OP skyblock server where you could do something like Paid worldedit so they could use worldedit but it cost 10000$ a block? or Do you want a factions element where you have shields (a virtual protection) that stops your island from being raided and people can break shields etc and raid bases and you have like an hr between raids etc. It all depends on what aspect you wish to follow.
