Global Scammer Ban Project

I have suggested this on LH, MCS, MCM, and MCT, and that is what I mean by "Global". If a scammer is banned from a forum of the four, his/her IP will be sent to the other forums, and all forums will IP ban that address. This helps to reduce the number of scammers found on these sites, also reducing the number of scam reports, making the life of staffs a lot easier.

Don't get it? Here's a scenario for you.

Peter gave a loan to Piper.
Piper did not pay back the loan.
Peter filed a scam report against Piper.
Jack is a scam resolver on that site.
Jack favored Peter, and banned Piper.
Jack looks up the IP address of Piper, which is 0.0.0.0.
Jack sends the IP, 0.0.0.0, to LH, MCS, MCM, and[Censored]
The forum staffs on there bans 0.0.0.0.
Piper can never get onto those four forums again!

This would essentially give all of those other forums power over banning members of our forum.
We should not be depending solely on other forums' judgement for bans, ever. Especially ip bans.

Scamming a person is obviously an offense that we take into consideration regaurdless of the communication medium.
If a user of one of those forums is a user on this forum, they can file a scam report here, or speak with our scam resolver, and the issue will be handled with our own staff team's judgement at the wheel. As it should be.

Different MCM competitors might not hold the same standards we do. M6 is quite fair, and will only ban someone if he's quite sure they are guilty of scamming. Can the same be said for all the other competitors, we wouldn't know if there was any potential bias, since their standards could be different.

It would also mean MCM would have to work with competitor forums, which I really cant see happening.

I'd rather not allow low quality mcm knockoffs to have influence on people being banned here. Ironically, many competitor forums are owned and staffed by scammers who are banned from this forum. If someone is scammed elsewhere by a user of our forum, they may open a scam report. We can't just take the word of competitors and ban users. We need to see proof in the form of a scam report.

Well, how about sending a picture or link to the scam report of the banned user along with the IP so that MCM and other forums can decide whether or not to ban them.

Not to mention McM would take responsibility for actions and events taking place outside of our control. If someone is a confirmed scammer in the building & server direction, you can add them to the MCAU blacklist: https://t.co/ifYSWlSQG4
However, i do not believe McM should be the one responsible for this sort of thing. If they're on a blacklist like that, you can choose not to trust them.

I'm going to give the same response I gave to Mr_Jacksonville on my website: unless every marketplace decides to suddenly feel okay with giving out information about banned users (which may be sensitive at times), I highly doubt this is going to work. Implementing something like this would require a shared database, shared addon, shared system, and considering marketplaces aren't very friendly with each other (thank you, people like Doge Kappa), we definitely won't see that kind of cooperation any time soon.

Well yeah, MCM is like the name brand and all others are pretty much the cheap gas station brands that give you diarrhea. They have nothing unique about them and are literally downgraded copies of MCM. Their userbases consist of scammers, users banned from here and maybe a few of our members who want to spread their services. Every single one I've seen has at least a few of the following things in common:

  • Logo which looks like it was made with free clipart via photoshop in 5 minutes (generic shopping bags and pickaxes, etc)
  • Slogan is "The X Minecraft Marketplace"
  • Sections are exactly the same as ours, though may be slightly rearranged or slightly renamed (i.e., calling scam reports "Disputes" or something silly like that which sounds weird)
  • Nulled Xenforo
  • Cringey user titles or ratings
  • Allowing minecraft alts to be sold, resulting in every other thread being a shady looking user posting "XAlts - FAST - RELIABLE - ONLY $.05"
It's not that we can't do this, it's that we don't want to due to the reasons we've stated above.

Okay, fine, you have a point. But just for the record, if it's come to that time when there are so many banned users on MC-Market to create a userbase for other marketplaces, then I think we have a grave problem in our hands.

And by the way, "Dispute" sounds way nicer if you compare to "scam report." Just saying...

We can't really help it that people keep scamming. The internet is full of scammers, and apparently McM is still a desirable target. Probably because of all the people that still do not know how to avoid basic simple scams. We ban anyone who is convicted of scamming. 98% of the permabans of this site are for either scamming or alting (the latter almost always being because of a ban for scamming). So obviously there's gonna be hundreds of people on sites like that, if there's hundreds of scammers (and there's thousands).

Denied for the reasons that Justis, Buildblox, Ivain, Doge, and Fire have provided.

Thanks for the suggestion.
