Because when you click on a thread from the "Recent Posts" widget, it takes you to the most recent post of that thread. For some users it would be convenient to have a button that takes you to the start of the thread. (Maybe even a widget that follow you as you scroll would be helpful?)

EDIT: Maybe also if you clicked this button it would show you the original post as an overlay. (Like the member cards or 'Edit Thread' button overlay)

Your "button" is not half an inch underneath the 1st page button, which will take you to the top of the first page, therefore the first post.

The button you suggested is pretty useless, but the overlay sounds pretty cool, I might like seeing that, though the development that would need to go into it could probably be used somewhere else.

:/ it's an example I Inspect-Elemented at school in 2 minutes. I listed two other possibilities, the ideal one being this:

I definitely don't see this as being needed. What is wrong with clicking the 1st page button? Is there something about that which I'm not aware of? I'd rather get other systems set up before we start working on other aesthetic features like this. Denied, thanks.
