Hey,

So recently I have been both practicing drawn art and web development. I am getting decent at both of them. But I need to come to a conclusion.

I can't be doing both because I need to dedicate as much time as possible to practice one or the other.

I love and enjoy doing both but it's a matter of which one will get more service. I know the marketing for web development can get more than graphics but it also depends on if I can get customers.

At the moment the leading web developers on this website are:
That's my opinion anyone and I persume it's a lot of other people's opinions to.

So, I decided to make this thread to hear what everyone else thinks. I would really appreciate everyone's opinions, advice and feedback. I'd appreciate it if you also voted on the vote poll that I created just above this thread. :)

I look forward to hearing from you all!

Thanks!

Ah you forgot to tag me as a leading web developer ;). Just depends on what you like to do more, graphics is a lot easier if you have the talent. Really depends on you, and what you think could be a good career choice.

I was actually just looking for your name. I thought it was Exposed. That's for the advice!

To be honest I like them both just as much as eachother but I want to go with the best one that's easier to get customers and getter marketing.

Thanks!

It really comes down to which one you have more of a passion for. Do you like doing web development or graphic design more? Which makes you feel better when you finish a project?

For instance, I used to offer small plugin development and there weren't many plugin developers when I started. But plugin development didn't make me happy when I did it. Web development is where I found my passion for now. However, I plan on this changing later on once I get more experience with plugins and games.

I hope this helped you somehow.

Which do you like more? How big is each market, and how experienced is your competition? How easy is it for you to learn things, and which has been easier to grasp so far, design or development?

Web development has been a lot easier to grasp and learn. A lot easier. I will probably earn more from web development than graphics. However, my competition is very experienced. There is no explaining except saying the two names Elcro and 1amDev...

Haha. Yeah, they're good. However something to consider is 1) if you aren't as experienced/good as them, you could potentially have an equal market. A lot of people on here don't like to dish out money to get things done, so if your quality isn't as good, your prices should be lower, and people on budgets will come to you. Also, just because they're better than you now doesn't mean you can't become just as good or better than them with a lot of practice. You could have a unique style/way of developing that they don't that could draw in more customers

Dont worry about competition, if youre good at it the money will simply roll in.

Web design imo will be more useful.

Hey,

Thanks everyone for the advice. I'm going to wait another day or so for more advice to roll in but I think I'm going to go with web development. I was drawing and making a website for a few hour last night and I enjoy web development more. I also feel a lot more proud and happy when I finish a web development project than I do finishing a drawing.

Thanks again everyone!

Thanks!

You know, you could use your design/drawing to help yourself and others with web development instead of ditching it completely. A lot of developers, including myself, sometimes have a hard time coming up with a custom design from scratch, it's always nice to have a mockup/drawing of a potential outcome of the site so you have something to go off of :)

I saw this post on r/web_design about entry level questions for UI devs. I think if you can answer those questions quickly then you have a good grasp on web design. I like to explore areas of interest and when I feel like I've mastered it I move onto another area. This allows me to explore everything I love and still continue to master things.

Thanks for that! I will take a look at that now.
