I've been using another forum recently and have been moving away from MCM. One of my favorite things about it is the group setup. Users own groups, they have buy in prices, user banners, perks, and they can sell their group. This has probably been suggested before but it seems like a nice way to make the community more active. Also, it makes people more invested in the site which would lower scam rate.

Thoughts?

It's a good idea, but a lot of groups I've seen have extremely high buy-in prices ($100+) and the majority of people on this site don't have $100+ to spend on a group.

good groups tend to have ways to make the $ back. for some ppl it's an investment they're willing to make--there are some on the lower price side like 10-20$ for a buy in that get rebranded every few months, so ye--but this is also a problem, that some ppl just don't have the money to spend lol

Buy in prices would be determined by the market of course. I’m guessing on MCM they would be between $5-$30[DOUBLEPOST=1558387250][/DOUBLEPOST]I’m also assuming that MCM groups would cost less to start

That’s what I guessed but I can’t think of why it would have been denied. It makes MCM more money, creates more user involvement, and makes people more committed to the forum and less likely to scam

I somewhat agree with what you're saying. Here is the post denying the suggestion, https://www.mc-market.org/threads/188656/#post-1910686
Ok so from skimming it I get the gist that it was denied for over complicating things. This suggestion is different in a number of ways:

- these groups would be one time purchase, there would only be a certain number of them and once all were sold to users (say 7 of them) they could only be sold among users.
- they would not have complicated sub forums although it could be up to the group owner to make a discord community

My only concern is how these groups would handle kicking members. Buying into groups could be a very powerful tool to scam people with little to no effort. Can a group leader set their own rules for staying within the group (a TOS) and then change that to potentially justify kicking someone?

Good idea I’ve never thought about that. My only guess would be that groups don’t lose anything by having someone buy in, so why would they scam someone like that

Because it would be extremely easy to do so. All they have to do is come up with an excuse to kick someone, regardless of whether or not they've done anything actually wrong, and bam. Easy money.

Yeah but I’m saying that the people on this forum who scam are doing it for the money - not just to make someone feel bad. Once someone buys into a group the person already has their money and they didn’t lose anything so why go through the trouble to kick?[DOUBLEPOST=1558394301][/DOUBLEPOST]

And anyway a scam report would be opened[DOUBLEPOST=1558404380][/DOUBLEPOST]more feedback please I really want this I would buy a group instantly

There have been a few suggestions about this in the past, and they have been denied each time. We are a marketplace first, and a community second. Adding in clunky usergroups and titles makes the forum unprofessional and the groups would have very little benefit overall.

If people want to have their own little group they should make a discord server or something like that.

Denied, thanks for the suggestion.
