It's just safer in general, people that aren't registered shouldn't need to view the forums

Considering how much of our traffic comes from guests googling "Og account <name>", or other minecraft account related searches, disallowing them access to these forums unless they're registered is certain to impede on our growth significantly.
I don't support the account sales business, but if it's going to be here, it'd rather it be benefitting our site's growth as much as it can.
The results of privatizing these forums would be far more severe than the issues it would resolve.

If you're that concerned, I'd do what most people do and just replace part of the name with Stars. 'Ca*t' for example. Ask people to contact you on skype and give out the full name, or PM if you're comfortable with that.
