Hello, my name is georgster. I am the current owner of an up and coming prison server, however I have owned a largely popular prison server in the past. I see many users confused when it comes to making servers, factions, creative, etc. are easier, since players will guide you to what you need, and the plugins you need already are pretty straightforward and require little/no setup (except economy balancing). However, prison is a totally different beast. It requires many, many plugins, along with a powerful plugin to function the plugin basically, however fear not, as I will guide you through this.
This guide will supply you with basic plugins you need to make a basic prison server.
DISCLAIMER: THIS GUIDE WILL NOT GUARANTEE YOUR SERVER WILL BECOME SUCCESSFUL, NOR WILL IT GUARANTEE EVERYTHING WILL WORK PROPERLY. MOST OF THESE PLUGINS REQUIRE HEAVY CONFIGURATION. IF YOU HAVE AN ISSUE WITH A PLUGIN, I MOST LIKELY CAN NOT HELP YOU, ASK THE PLUGIN DEVELOPER FOR HELP WITH ISSUES.
Let's begin:
First of all, some plugins almost every server needs:
- EssentialsX, any chat plugin, Vault, PlaceholderAPI, Some kind of PlayerVaults (CosmicVaults, PlayerVaults, Vaults, etc.), some kind of anti-cheat (your choice really), possibly other API's, a permissions plugin (PEX, GM, LP, PP, BP etc.), a chat moderation plugin (ChatControl), Holograms/Holographic Displays, Votifier or nuVotifier, a vote listener (GAListener for free, ProVotes or any premium votelistener for something advanced), Multiverse-Core, ProtocolLib, WorldEdit, banning plugin (MaxBans, LiteBans, AdvancedBans etc. and WorldGuard.
Prison servers are based around ranking up in the ladder. There are a couple plugins out there for this.
RANK UPS:
#1 - EZRanksPro - $10.61 - Probably the most used, and recommended plugin for this, EZRanksPro allows for easy configuration, along with lots of customizability.
#2 - PEX-Rankup or Rankup - FREE - These plugins works as intended, however do not offer nearly the amount of options EZRanksPro does, and should mainly only be used on a budget, if you can not afford EZRanksPro.
You NEED mine resetting for prison servers, no questions.
MINE RESETTING:
#1 - PrisonMines - $10.21 (7.99 GBP) - One of the best mine plugins out there, this plugin offers easy mine creation, and many features to use.
#2 - MineResetLite/MineResetLitePlus - FREE - The original mine resetting plugins, they get the job done fairly well, and have some nice features, although PrisonMines offers easier mine creation, MRL works nicely as well.
Selling methods are the ways players can sell their mined blocks to the server.
SELLING METHODS:
#1 - AutoSell - $10 - AutoSell is simply the best, most compatible, and most advanced sellall/selling plugin out there. It offers fortuneblocks, autopickup, autosmelt, autoselling, sellall (commands and signs), and more!
#2 - SellAll by simgar98 (to remove confusion) - $8 (I think) - Although a bit less advanced, SellAll offers many nice things as well, along with its many multiplier options. SellAll also offers one major thing AutoSell doesn't, premium developer support. It is almost impossible to talk with clip, or one of his dev members directly, whereas talking to simgar is as easy as PMing him, adding him on Skype or talking to him in his resource discussion. If SellAll added AutoSell, it would be better than AutoSell, however as of now AutoSell stands on top due to that feature (although SellAll does have some features AutoSell lacks, and is very viable!)
#3 - SellAll by GlossyPanther or QuickSell - FREE - These plugins are viable on a budget, and do the job, however lack some compatibility and some features the other plugins have.
eTokens allow users to gather tokens, and upgrade their items!
ETOKENS:
#1 - TokenEnchant - $16 - TokenEnchant is simply the best token plugin for prison, as it have major customization, decent plugin support (if you actually contact VK through discussion or FreshDesk instead of leaving a 1 star review), and has lots of enchants, add-ons and compatibility.
#2 - TokenManager or Tokens - FREE - These plugins can work is configured right, and possibly with some custom add-ons, however TokenManager stands above with prison setups.
Backpacks are new and upcoming in the prison scene, however have major impact on gameplay, and can be used with token systems!
BACKPACKS:
#1 - SimBackpacks - $2.50 - A new plugin out there, SimBackpacks (your welcome for the recent update), is basically a prison server owners dream plugin. At only $2.50, SimBackpacks has it's own FortuneBlocks, Drops2Inv, AutoSmelt, etc. along with a perfect backpack system, and a upgrade backpack command to be used for tokens (again, you're welcome)!
#2 - VKBackpacks - $12.73 - VKBackpacks can work very well if configured right, however I feel SimBP's is much cheaper, and efficient. However, VKBackpacks has a lot to offer as well, and actually can work perfectly if you need it to, even better than SimBP's with enough config work.
The scoreboard can show lots of information
SCOREBOARDS:
- #1 - FeatherBoard - $17.50 - Best scoreboard plugin, no questions asked (animated and tons of placeholders)
- #2 - EZRanksLite/Pro Scoreboard - Comes with those plugins, works for some of what you need, not everything is supported
- #3 - Any scoreboard plugin with PAPI or MVDW-PAPI support
EVERYTHING, AND MORE (Except a Mine resetting plugin, and possibly not Tokens/BP's):
#1 - PrisonProfessional - $19.98 - I'll have to check this plugin out more, because it looks amazing. However I recommend you check the spigot page.
Other Plugins (to optimize your prison server, not required but recommended):

- InventoryFull - FREE

- React (this plugin is amazing) - $5
