To be honest i dont really know how a server works, all i know is that need 1-2 gb of ram, 1 tb storage. i want a server which is cheap/affordable, DDOS protected. it is a start up server but wanting to develop into a known server into the future! as you already know, i do not know how server hosting works. All i know is that i dont want it setup in my house, and im not sure what specs i would need.

You do not need a dedicated server if you don't know what you are doing. You should learn from using a shared server until you are familiar with and ready to release your network to a big group of players. You're just wasting your money if you get a dedicated server.

I recommend going with a VPS first.
OMGServ has a promotion on their VPS servers going on, they resell OVH or Online I heard.

https://www.omgserv.com/en/hosting/vps/ssd/

As XHostFire LLC mentioned earlier, if you don't know what you're doing you should consider buying a shared minecraft server or maybe hire a sys admin. There are great ones such as Samuel for example that will be able to help you keeping the OS stable and "up-to-date".

Best regards,
Bastian

OMGServ collocates in OVH's Paris datacenter, if I can remember correctly.

ok thank you! Do you have a suggestion on which host to share with?

All of the providers here offer shared Minecraft hosting. Any of them will do. I would read up on the companies first make sure they meet all your expectations. Remember you get what you pay for!
