I feel as if my dreams have been crushed. Ever since a child, I've dreamed on moving to California. I'm not even exaggerating when I say that everyday, since a kid, I've dreamed and thought about moving everyday. I was diagnosed with Chron's disease at the age of 11, I was sick for many years and they couldn't find a treatment that could help me. I tried drug after drug, I didn't eat for 12 weeks, instead they gave me these horrible favoured milkshake that were meant to be 'chocolate' but tasted more like dirt to me. I was then put on steroids. These severely affected me and I had very bad side effects. My whole personality changed, I couldn't tell when to stop eating so I became very overweight, and the medicine also caused my face to swell up badly. The school used to come round my house trying to pressure me to come to school, looking through my windows and constantly calling my mom. I was eventually forced into school, my whole appearance had changed, I went from being a skinny kid who joked around too someone who was extremely overweight and was left heartless. I tried to fit in, but I got constantly bullied and I would cry everyday; this broke my mom.After three years, they found a medicine called Infliximab. This medicine changed my life. After 2 treatments, I felt like I had never felt before. I eventually became myself again, and I moved to a school in a different town. I moved back one year, I had two years before I would finish high school. I spent more time making friends and being the class clown than studying because it had been so long since I had that communication with people. I lost a lot of weight, and my appearance was good, however, my grades weren't. I came out of high school, just about passing my subjects by the skin of my teeth, I was very lucky.
After school, I applied to a local college. They're very different to US local colleges, maybe 500 kids go to mine, and I studied to become an electrician. Due to this corona virus, college has been cancelled and it's been merged together with next years course, so level two and three will be completed. That course will start when schools re-open. However, due to my condition, I have a week immune system and won't be able to attend till there's a vaccine for the virus.
The year I'm meant to be in, will going off to university, and all I've got are those terrible high school grades. My dream is to move to America, but that dream is becoming more and more distant everyday. The treatment that I have in the UK is free and covered by the NHS, but it would usually cost around 3k per infusion, and I have one every 6 weeks. My insurance will be quite expensive, so that's why I'm asking for some help. Please help me achieve my dreams.
