Hello mcm members I need your help to decide on how to run a charity event. I am offering the naming rights to a free 1.8 spigot i plan to release, this spigot should see lots of attention. I want to allow the community to decide what the name become but I don't know the best way. I have compiled two ways of doing it please let me know what you think! Suggestions are welcomed!

#1 $5 per entry, so people will be able to donate, and for every $5 they donate they will get 1 entry into the drawing. The winner of the drawing would then get to select the name of the spigot. All funds donated will be further donated to a charity.

#2 Highest bidder wins, this way we would hold an auction allowing everyone from the site to compete in a bidding war for the naming rights. The highest bidder will get the naming rights and their money will be donated to charity.

I will be adding an extra $100 to the final no matter which way we go.

Why would someone want the naming rights?

Why would someone want the naming rights?
It's just a way for people who are involved in the community to have a piece of them even more memorialized in place. We have hundreds of buyers on our paid spigots, I would imagine the use of this free jar will be substantial.

#2.

That way the person who really wants it, gets it. More meaning. What if someone chucks in $5 just for fun but really wasn't that passionate about it.

I'd say the 1st option if your goal Is to collect money for a charity, as that will most likely give you a bigger monetary gain. As people who want to can donate $5 multiple times, unless I misunderstood something.

Really depends on your intention. If you want the most amount of money, then #1 is definitely your bet. If you want to give the naming rights to someone who is passionate about the project or just really wants their name on there go for #2.

A bidding war seems more fun. Then you can get people who have a fat pocket in on it instead of a bunch of kids who just wanna donate $5. Like I'm sure Dann wouldn't have bid $700 if he had a 33% chance of winning rainbow.

Plus watching a bidding war sounds fun asf.

Yes most definitely a bidding war would be fun to watch. I just wanted to open the discussion up to the community and see how the majority felt.
