Hey there everyone! Im here today asking what really is OVH? Im looking into using OVH but im confused on how OVH works. I dont have a big budget but I see that they offer quite cheap services. If i am to go to OVH, which plans should I choose for a faction type server? Ive been looking at the VPS and that looked very reasonable - Is it possible to set up a multicraft panel if I order there services? If its not possible, how am I supposed to upload plugins ands such. And my last and final question, would I be better off using a Premium service from a hosting company? Thanks alot for your help!

What is your budget? If it’s less than $70 I’d go with SYS or another provider if you want dedicated(PM me and I might be able to get you a server built).

“If i am to go to OVH, which plans should I choose for a faction type server?“
>The i7 or E3 servers from OVH are nice if it’s within your budget.

“Ive been looking at the VPS and that looked very reasonable”
>OVH vps would be “ok” to start on but I wouldn’t use it forever, only about 2.2Ghz clock speed.

“Is it possible to set up a multicraft panel if I order there services?”
>Yes you can install a control panel, there are some free ones or you could pay for multicraft.

“would I be better off using a Premium service from a hosting company?”
>Depending on what you need simple shared hosting might work.

Nice simple reply. I like it.

You could potentially save more money just going with a "Premium service" hosting company. It really does depend like hoot said on what you need specifically.

Hoot , thank you very much for your detailed response its greatly appreciated. I was looking at OVH's following plan:
  • OpenStack KVM
  • 1 vCore
  • 2.4 GHz
  • 4 GB RAM
  • 20 GB SSD
    Local RAID 10
$6.99/month.

How is this compared too other server hosting companies across MCM? Can this hold a server with a decent amount of plugins as well as hold a decent playerbase? Compared to an Intel® Xeon® E3-1240v5 Processor <- that processor is advertised as premium hosting.

>It’s about the same but with a bit more freedom. That vps comes to about $1.75/gb but it includes a dedicated IP as it’s a vps. You can also do a bit more with it such as host websites or a teamspeak server which is what I meant by more freedom. You will however have to pay license fees for multicraft and such.

“Can this hold a server with a decent amount of plugins as well as hold a decent playerbase?”
>It will work as a starter vps. It only has 1vCore at 2.4Ghz so I wouldn’t host a small network or anything.

“Compared to an Intel® Xeon® E3-1240v5 Processor”
>Depending on how much this costs per gb you might be better off with this. With a base clock of 3.5Ghz this is a pretty good option if the price is right.

If you’re interested, send me a pm and I’ll see what I can offer for shared hosting that would work well for you.

Im here today asking what really is OVH? I

OVH is a french hosting company that offers various products such as VPS or dedicated server in their own datacenters.

Is it possible to set up a multicraft panel if I order there services

That is indeed possible. You should take a look at Multicraft's pricing first and then choose the package that fits to you.
Alternatively I can recommend you to use Pterodactyl. Pterodactyl is an awesome, open-source and completely free game hosting panel made by the awesome @Fishfish0001. You can easily install Pterodactyl using a script that has been shared here.

would I be better off using a Premium service from a hosting company?

That depends on the hosting company. Using a VPS you have guaranteed resources, you cannot make sure that your premium hosting company is overselling, even though they might be premium. Premium is just a definition, it does not ensure quality. A budget host can give you the same quality as a hosting provider calling themselves premium.

TL;DR - I recommend using a VPS if you have necessary linux knowledges. If you do not have linux knowledge you should consider getting services from a hosting company. You have the control about your files when using a VPS, you can see your RAM and CPU usage and you can use your VPS for multiple things such as setting up a webserver or teamspeak3 server. That's something you won't have when buying a Minecraft Service from a hosting company.

If you are looking for a VPS provider that offers servers in Germany, feel free to contact me at any time.
We can offer you our VPS S package including 4GB DDR4 RAM, 70GB HDD space and 2 vCores running on a powerful Intel i7-5820k @ 3.3GHz in Germany.

Thank you and if you have further questions or require help setting up your VPS, feel free to message me at any time.

Best regards,
Bastian

That script is outdated and does not support commands that are used by the vanilla install of pterodactyl. I would recommend installing it without the script.

My bad. If you, however, require help in installing Pterodactyl let me know and I will be glad to help out.
