Check your firewall and make sure Minecraft is allowed through your firewall.

I had this error, you can try changing your DNS servers, since i've been using google's had no issues.

1. Try resetting your modem.
2. Try adjusting your firewall.
3. Try reinstalling Minecraft.
(Does it crash? if so google the error code it comes up with)

Happened to me once. I went to my router's setting page and changed the security to "Custom" instead of "High" and that solved it.
