Hello MCM

I wanted to ask Hetzner users if their US players get latency issues, specifically in the west coast. I want to grab a server from them but I'm concerned it will cause major latency issues for US players.

Thank you!

I beg you not to their open contract is a big trap.

Might not be too bad for east US players but west US players will definitely feel it. If you want to cater for both US and EU best you can you'd be better off with a server in the east coast of US.

Take this however you want but you need to know few things. Their open contract is a trap.
They made it so you seriously get confused even if you read the contract (alot of reading). Also alot people mentioned the "debt collect agency" that they often refer to when you try to cancel the dedi server for example but it did not work.Im not even joking im just trying to pull you out from it.Im serious about saying any other host than them.

You can think im joking but i had to take a lawyer when they tried to charge me 4.7k eur for the service i did not used,i canceled all the machines twice and even told them about 5-6 times that i will cancel everything so they know.

Don't be fooled by their cheap prices (everything is good except charging and ddos protection part)

Damn you are unlucky, i've used them for well over 4+ years along with helping customers with buying a server from them, EU and US. Not have a single issue with them, only a small issue regarding their install systems

If you do however ignore me and still get something from them i advise you to read every single damn letter they have in the open contract part.[DOUBLEPOST=1588540224][/DOUBLEPOST]

I think it's upto the individual to understand it. I understand it quite well, and set it in to it 100% BEFORE buying. When you are buying dedicated server, it's quite important to read everything, as some companies make some weried invoice systems. I was at a company long ago, where they charged 1 week before the due date, as a confirmation from their site. Scam? Yes please.

Hetzner is a enterprise, therfor not always easy to understand. Try and read Azure's terms they are confusing :p
Oh well, must have been bad luck

I never understood why is it so hard for them to create pay to use kind of deal rather than this pyramid scheme kind of deal

Im starting to think that's why it is so cheap hahahhaha xD

That's how their infrastructure is built, and their buisness model.
Trust me, they have though of every solution possible.

Otherwies they would have been here now. Normally with dedicated servers, vps's and such you pay monthly or annually. Hetzner goes through the orders manually for some reason, so sometimes the invoice is a day or two behind. Some like it some dont.

Personally I've been looking more towards cloud hosting as most of the companies use pay for use method.

So if you have it up for 4 hours, you pay a certain amount pr hour, OR even sometimes how much RAM/CPU you use.

Look at these "complaints" and questions, if anyone would actually read the agreement before purchasing anything there would be no issue at all, I've been using Hetzner for many years and never had a problem, just get a half-decent DDoS protection layer in front of their IP to make sure you don't bug their network and you'll be just fine.

And to the OP's question, if you like I'll send you an IP for a Hetzner server so you can check the ping for yourself, shouldn't be any higher than 150 I'm sure.

I've been with Hetzner personally since 2007 and professionally since 2017. I run a simple dedicated for my own enjoyment, and have done so for the last 13 years. That's a whopping 70 euros monthly from mer personally. Professionally we run a metric asston of infra on Hetzner machines, to the tune of 10k euro per month - and have done so for the last 3 years.

In my 13 years of personal use, the only complaint I've ever had with them is that one time half their network fell over sometime in 2009. Professionally, there are no complaints. Service is good, and we create new dedicateds on a weekly basis almost, and cancel a fair amount too since our needs are ever evolving. We've never had issues cancelling any server - ever.

We're also using their Cloud, and there too we create and remove instances by the dozens on a daily basis for transient workloads that we need compute power for.

So I'm pretty sure your story is lacking a few crucial details...[DOUBLEPOST=1588542216][/DOUBLEPOST]

Thank you!

I ran a reasonably popular server on Hetzner for a few years back in the "good old days", players from all over the world. I myself was in Indonesia at the time and got about 100-150ms ping, US-West got about the same.

(side note: anyone who insists they need sub-50ms latency to play Minecraft needs his/her/its head examined; it's not an eSports speedy reflexes game. No, not even the PvP.)

This is not a 'scam'. I know many companies that do this. Especially service companies and whatnot. It's to ensure the payment is received on time. In case the 1st payment fails, there's enough time to inform you without having your service interrupted.

Thank you all for your help. I've decided to stay away from hetzner mainly due to their location.
