Hey, this is quite a long post. But I think it would be worth your time if you would read it. Please discuss anything you do not agree with. I am happy with other thoughts and people changing my mind. Enjoy this long read!

Note: this is a snippet from something I posted elsewhere, names are removed with -snip-

Furthermore, while people are telling me that this is just mc-market. There are people behind every account and the ones suffering with depression the most are teens.

Video games stimulate depression. Not going to argue with it. There are enough studies done. Example:
Journal of Behavioral Addictions 3(1), pp. 27–32 (2014)
DOI: 10.1556/JBA.3.2014.002

To clarify, there is the mood depression and the actual mood disorder depression. If you have the actual mental illness then most of my advice does not work for you although it can definitely improve your life by a hefty amount.
As a well-referenced study shows that 60% or more of depression cases are actually not depression but the mood depression. "Clinician-Identified Depression in Community Settings: Concordance with Structured-Interview Diagnoses" is published in Psychotherapy and Psychosomatics"

Another study: Beck Proposes an Integrative Theory of Depression shows that people misuse the term depression.
Another study shows that the people that actually have MDD are around 37.8% of all the depression cases. And for adults it is even less; 16.7%. "In face-to-face interviews, the participants were all re-evaluated for the major depressive disorder (MDD) as defined by the Diagnostic and Statistical Manual (DSM)" Feel free to look the study up.

Now, you know that there is a major difference between the clinical illness 'depression' and the mood 'depression'. Now we can move on. Then the question arises, why do you think that 'real' depression is only a chemical imbalance? I do not think the only 'real' depression is the chemical depression and I have never said so. One of the studies above also verifies that depression can exist without a chemical imbalance. This already proves the user Walkers wrong and I am taking in all the kinds of depression.

However, that means if there is no chemical imbalance, it will pass. If you act. But first, depression is not just about being sad but it is feeling helpless not finding joy in life too but I will elaborate on that further on. That there will be no end. Etc. etc. We now clarified what we are talking about and I know what depression is or feels like. Anissasan all your remarks or arguments or whatever they were will be answered blow when I just write my case.

So, if we are talking about the mood depression or something that is not purely a chemical balance it means it has been forged by your surroundings/environment (including chance) or your own thinking. That means you are hurting now and you did not use to be hurting. You feel helpless and think you do not deserve something etc. etc. The point is, most of the mood depression (not all, everything has exceptions and please take everything into account with a grain of salt because there will also be an exception) is self-induced. Why did this happen to me? Why is my life so though? This is because it is easier to complain in a way or junk on your own self-pity. Your brain loves to do that. It is true, you are not causing it but your mind is doing you that pleasure. This can be prevented by either keeping your mind incredibly busy or severe meditation. Yes, this has been proven too.

Now, you are not in the mood for anything or nothing sparks joy like before. This could be because you have burned your dopamine receptors out by browsing endlessly, watching TV endlessly, using your phone too much, playing too many video games anything that causes instant pleasure even if you do not notice it. Pleasure is a false god and stay the hell away from it or discipline yourself and limit your time. Study: Relationship of smartphone use severity with sleep quality, depression, and anxiety in university students.

Now, sleep-deprivation. Get some good sleep. 6 - 8 hours. I prefer 7 or 6 as I feel like less is more but that is personal preference. If you get a steady sleeping schedule your depression will be easier to combat. Then you throw the excuse to me "I cannot sleep because of voices or my mind keeping me busy etc." well, now you are not taking matters into your own hands. You are complaining and making excuses (exceptions of course again). Start meditating a lot. Download Headspace and take the free sessions (no ad). It will help swiftly. Furthermore, tire yourself. Work-out like you can no more. That sweat is everywhere. Go jogging till you cannot go on. Till you are so tired that if you fall on the couch you will sleep. Then time this in the evening and oh, you will sleep like a baby. Not even your worst thoughts can keep you from sleeping for longer than 10 minutes.

So, now your quality of life has already been improving. Less instant-gratification, better sleep. Now start eating healthier. I know you do not feel like it, but say to yourself "this is what I must do" and count down from 5 to 1 and do it anyways. If you successfully do this then you start to feel even better. More energy, better skin care, your deprivation in your eyes start to fade away. You actually start feeling somewhat good, at least I hope.

Now you need to start pushing yourself to do something. Find something you can do which you do not love but that is challenging. Maybe learn an instrument, start writing. Anything that is mentally challenging and can keep you busy. Try and find your passion by just trying things and failing. Once you fail enough, you lose that anxiety which also helps with your depression if you still even have it by now.

Try to interact a bit socially, if you detoxed from your overloaded dopamine receptors things should start to become a bit of a joy to you. Or you do not mind doing it anymore. Pick up your old hobbies and keep improving in whatever aspect of your life that you can. Try and avoid toxic environments. Your toxic thoughts will always try to come back but there are numerous ways you can try and avoid them, most of them already listed but at the end, I'll summarise it and add ways to cure your depression.

I do think I caught the main things already but addressing some users in the comments now: Shun said that depression is not this way, well, it is. You even said it yourself. The first months were miserable. Keyword; were. Now they are a bit less miserable. Right? So, just keep on going and soon they will be even less and less miserable. Just move forward.

To -snip-: That is the right attitude, so I wish you the best of luck with your journey and the things I will be listing at the end will probably help you with it!

to -snip-: I sometimes do lack empathy because I have been through hell and back multiple times. I sometimes find it annoying that people think they can not do things or are helpless when all they have to do is be brutally honest with themselves and start working. I do not need empathy lessons because I have empathy and sympathise with a lot of people. I just get really passionate when people talk about life. I just came out rude. Sorry.

Last; some science and non-science based ways to get rid of your depression:
Read books, meditation, less computer/mobile etc, no endless browsing quit social media, stop playing video games, eat healthier, start excercising, get out of your toxic enviroment, find some good friends. Start self-improving, learn an instrument, draw, work incredibly hard to get your mind of anything. There is so much seriously.

Try some subreddits: /r/malefashionadvice, /r/nofap, /r/noporn, /r/seduction, /r/discipline (has some incredible posts if you browse top - all time), /r/getmotivated etc. etc. There are a lot more but I really have to go. I have exams tomorrow and did not learn yet. I am too passionate about life and depression and helping people. If anyone has any questions please add me on Discord: Aekalix#8582 I would love to help!

And please prove me wrong. Go through this whole process which takes years (it took me a few and still busy doing it. Currently at year approx year 6.) and come back to me and tell me that even after executing most of this with your best effort that you are still depressed. Brutally honest; I think this is for 95% of all the readers way too much effort. Come with the excuse "I do not feel like doing it" then become mentally strong and do it anyway.

Tl;Dr: No, if you are depressed or feeling down lately, read this whole damn post.

Just read it. I think the point you are marking is very good to know. Here is a sum up:

Depression can be either self inflicted or pity over ourselves, when you don’t feel joy in anything, take a 3-7 day break of any electronics as it may be caused by an excess of dopamine. Do hobbies and live a social life as you won’t see everyone again all the time, trust me.

Yes, however the official name of the website is minecraft-market. If he were to publish a book, nobody would read it, as mostly virtual goods are traded here.
