This thread should be a serious one. I understand jokes can be made that I'm the "Devil" and this content I'm about to post can be seen as hypocritical or funny because I'm supposed to embody all evil or something. Take a second to realize I wouldn't be writing this long and bolding this small section, if I wasn't dead serious about a humanitarian crisis.

Edit as of 6/29/2020 at 6:34PM PST:
Due to "popular" request of a link to the petition, I will link this one that petitions for California's governor Gavin Newsom to use his state powers to help us californians out. https://www.change.org/p/gavin-newsom-cancel-rent-and-mortgage-payments-during-covid-19

I also ironically petitioned and paid $11 to advertise a petition to the federal govt of Canada, not US, so I've signed another and donated $7 to raise awareness of the petition. So there it is, $18 total spent toward doing my part.

Original Content as of 6/29/2020 at 3:00AM PST:
The context of this post, I just watched John Oliver's Last Week Tonight most recent segment regarding the pandemic situation and he specifically addresses that we're about to have an influx of evictions/homelessness in the entire country of the US.

Vid:

If you're not american and want to use that as an explanation to say you should not be bothered to help or be affected in any way, feel free. Leave the thread if you'd like even.

So upon finishing the video, I now understand more given the little time John Oliver had to explain as thoroughly as he could about the general statistics and testimonials that are happening, I went out of my way to go find a petition site and put my thoughts/comments in addition to signing.

Furthermore, I was prompted to donate a minimum of $11 to get a petition exposed. While petitions like these often may run into walls where they aren't viewed as seriously as paper in person written down signatures, I feel its at least a good enough alternative worth my 1,100 pennies to spread the word about it through change.org's media influence.

My thoughts/comments were as follows (not an exact copy since I already signed and can't seem to get it back but I can definitely paraphrase it here)

I am a fortunate individual who has parents paying for my college education, who doesn't stress about getting income to contribute to my household, and who definitely doesn't worry about losing the roof over my head anytime soon. I understand that many can not relate or simply do not relate to this and have been plagued with struggling to get the basic necessities for a reasonably comfortable and minimally humane life. I hope that my signature to this digital petition is one small action I can take to be apart of the change that needs to happen, especially with getting higher organizations/governments to come in and do what they can. Specifically the state and federal governments. Alot of people are going to be losing their homes because the policy vaguely listed out did not cover rent cancellation but rather a delay of eviction. That delay is coming to a close as evictions will soon be allowed as of July 1, 2 days of posting this. I genuinely wish to do what I can, even if a digital petition is not as significant or taken as seriously as an in person paper version. I can only hope that when a disaster comes, the people (not the government) can make the government bend to their voices. Its sad that it takes a disaster for such things to happen, but I'm here doing what I think is acceptable of me to do and able to do in order to make a change.

After signing I was prompted to pitch $11 to promote the petition and so I did. $11 isn't too much to me, and if I can pay this small fee to reach the masses of people who also can pitch in their voice, their signature, their small contribution, that is well worth an investment to me.

So I ask all of you, if you care about whats going to happen, remember that a disproportionately and arguably unimaginable amount of people (millions here) are about to lose their homes. Each person is a human being, as the word person would imply, but we often become so de-sensitized to seeing such large statistics with the context of our fellow literal neighbors.

Please I ask of you. See these people as people just like you. You could've been in their shoes, you could've been unfortunate, you could have ended up just like them. You might have experienced what they're feeling. You might be currently feeling what they are feeling, you might be one of those people and I'm sorry. I'm sorry that you are. I'm sorry I can't help more than what I have laid out here, signing a digital paper and speaking about it. I'm sorry I can't relate. But know that behind my sorry's, behind the pity that I am laying out and really trying to come off as caring and as human as I can, that I know you're human too. That I am so damn lucky to be able to say what I want to say and not have ever worried about losing a roof over my head, let alone worry about basic necessities.

I know you're human. I know each of these people, millions likely more, are people just like me, people who come from all walks of life, were handed different cards to play with, and are simply less fortunate than me. I hope that by posting this, I can inspire others to feel the same or similar way, and have them spur on taking the actions they can afford to do, to help you.

You should attach the link to where people can donate.
I ironically donated and signed a petition to the federal govt of canada. I'll be finding one for the US or a state, I saw one for gov newsom for california, and I live here so I'll be signing and donating later today to that. I can post a link but really I would like everyone to individually pick a few or just one of their own choice to go ahead and fill out. Better exposure to get these important petitions boosted with signature activity.[DOUBLEPOST=1593481546][/DOUBLEPOST]OP is updated with an edit, the link to the petition that's relevant to me (California for Governor Newsom to use his state power) has been added to the thread.
