Hello, I am looking into creating a hosting service (not Minecraft exclusive) and I would like some general tips, info, and perhaps a decent part list put together.

Note: Budget is $800-1000 (Which I would have to raise ;)), this would not be just for mc servers, I would like options for my customers.

PebbleHost
High performance, consistent uptime and fast support. Minecraft hosting that just works.

Don't start a host. You have a small budget, don't even know how to compile a business plan and you're looking to get yourself into a over saturated market.

Recipe to failure and wasting money^

+1, not trying to be mean but if you really don't got an idea on how to run it then you shouldn't start as it could lead to a failure.

1) Don't start a host if you have no experience in the industry

2) Don't start a host until the summer or a generally long holiday from school in most places. Good youngsters to steal $ from around that time $-$

No I have a plan to make my service more attractive. But I do agree it's an over saturated market.

The point of this thread is to start learning, I'm doing extensive research into the market and everything else to ensure success. I'm also not rushing into it.
If you have this money just sitting there you could possibly give out some loans while you learn more about hosting to expand your budget and get better knowledge. Its hard to just learn the ropes from comments on a thread it takes a bit of time and research :p
I don't have the money laying around and I'm not only using this thread, as I said above I'm doing extensive research.

You have to get experience somehow. ;)

I'm asking for useful advice, if you have nothing to say other than "don't do it" "you need to research" blah blah blah I've got it all under control I'm asking for any personal tips to go with my research.

If you're really wanting to do this, I'd first start off by finding contacts, contacts as in people to do business with. I would focus on gaining a solid reputation on minecraft communities such as on here or anywhere else. I would also set a goal on what your doing for everyone, don't just simply say "We're doing this to make people spend less money on hosting" instead say/set your mind on something unique, set yourself out from the other 1000 plus hosting companies that are out there. Finally look towards on collocating a few machines with good specs, getting a professional website, getting WHMCS and a mc server panel installed on your machine. If you have leftovers than look for making your company registered/legalized as well.

You've created a thread asking for tips about the industry. Creating a business plan is all about knowing the industry so yeah. I'm confident that you don't really know what you're getting yourself into otherwise you wouldn't be creating this thread.

Just to clarify, no offense was intended.

Well you said that I do not know how to compile a business plan which is how I took it and that is false, in this particular field I have to do more research before even drafting a business plan. Thanks for your concern.

I did own a hosting company at one point and it did terrible. I would not reccemend it what so ever. If you are trying to achieve this goal good luck.

I don't want to be a trasher and say you can't do this, but you just won't be able to compete with other companies and it'll just end up failing
