That would depend on how you plan to model your business. Are you going to own your own hardware and colocate? Are you going to rent servers?

I would suggest saving enough money to cover at least 4-6 months of expenses (hosting, licenses, labor, etc.) just in case things don't go in your favor. The first couple of months will be extremely tough.

Probably just resell from OVH. I don't want to make it as a main source of income, just have it something on the side and to put on my resume.[DOUBLEPOST=1507437398][/DOUBLEPOST]

Planning to resell from OVH probably $1.5 - $2.0 per gb.

Reselling hosting is really hard nowadays unless you can get large discounts from the provider. The profit margin is usually very small per dedicated server, fully loaded, if you want to stay competitive in the market. Not to mention that it will most likely take months before you can sell out a dedi, meaning you'd be losing a lot of money during the first couple of months of operation.

+1 to this, hosting right now is an incredibly brutal market to get into, you've absolutely got to find a niche where there's little to no competition in order to grab yourself a portion of the market. Doing the same thing as everyone else + lower prices will not go well.

I honestly think you should probably go look and invest in hardware. I wanted to start up a MC host, and Lyphiard contacted me and he said to me that in the long run buying my own hardware would save money. He is correct because with my server it is $15/mo for colocation. But the big first time pay after that though you own the hardware also...

Don't waste your time in these threads. Everyone thinks they know what they're doing most of the time and end up failing in business themselves. If you plan to just host minecraft servers and make a ROI you're in the wrong business unless you have a steady plan.

Don't focus too hard on how much money you need, but make sure you have a business plan that is solid. Do a little market research, see what competitors are doing and look at what they're doing and see if they are successful. Success comes in many forms, make some goals for yourself as a company because a lot of these kiddie hosts will try and bash you to make themselves look better so focus on those goals.

Anyone can start a little hosting offering and call it a business, resellers make it cheap for a reason so they can make money that way.

Remember this: Be best at one thing and good at all the rest.
