Hello, I am interested in opening my own host and have a few questions. Am I able to create a host on a VPS, or does it have to be a dedicated server? If so what OS and version would I want the VPS to have for like a Pterodactyl Panel? And would a Contabo VPS be good for a host? It has 800GB SSD, 30GB Ram and Intel® Xeon® E5-2620v3 with 8 Cores. I am planning to sell Minecraft Server Hosting and Discord Bot Hosting.

This is the link to the VPS im interested in: https://contabo.com/?show=configurator&vserver_id=237

Please reply your thoughts.

High performance, consistent uptime and fast support. Minecraft hosting that just works.

I'd recommend dedicated as it's better value for money, you can get some good ones from OVH to resell, but it depends on your budget. From experience with Contabo, I would say to stay far away, they're cheap, but are horrendous to work with.

Contabo == Shit

but yes, you can do that

Hey, thanks for your thoughts. Do you mind explaining why Contobo isn't an ideal VPS? I have read many reviews online that it provides good VPS's?

Did some administration work a while back, and the hardware wasn't very good. Tried installing redis, and it kept failing multiple times, with no apparent reason. Contabo never responded to my support ticket (Now over 4 weeks old), and it is overall just a bad service, which I've never had a good experience with.

Thank you for replying, I have considered what you have said and I doubt I will be able to pursue the host I was planning on making. I am willing spending up to £30 a month for a VPS/Dedicated server. However I can't find a good one for the little budget I have that includes a decent amount of ram and a good CPU. I thought I would be able to create one as Contabo provided very good specs and after looking I can't find anything like it. Thanks again for your help.

If you must use Contabo for hosting you should buy their dedicated servers. Contabo VPS will run you into trouble with bad performance...bad enough that every one of your clients will think something is going wrong.

Hello Josh,

The best way to get into hosting with the least amount of money would be to utilize reseller packages. Luckily, we offer the highest-end hardware + networking that will help you get started as a hosting provider at the cheapest possible prices. We currently offer web reseller plans starting at $4.50/mo, and VPS reseller hosting starting at $3/GB of ram.

Our web hosting is powered by cPanel, the industry-leading web control panel whilst our VPS hosting is on i9-9900k CPU's which are currently the best CPU's for hosting Minecraft servers. All of these products are managed by us which means you can easily and effectively deliver your customers an experience they won't get with a provider like contabo or even some higher end options. Simply purchase a plan and in minutes you're ready to sell to your customers.

We've been in business for over a year, and we offer multiple hosting locations in NA and EU. You can view our uptime status at https://status.versatilenode.com

Please let us know if you're interested in any products we offer, we'd love to work with your future company. If you have any questions or concerns, feel free to create a ticket on our discord at https://discord.versatilenode.com or on our website.

Best Regards,
Anthony | CEO of VersatileNode
