It's as much a question of CPU processing power as it is RAM, people often forget that.
For a 1000 player network, you would need several dedicated servers. Usuaully you shouldn't have more than 400 players on a one server. If you need more, you have several of that gamemode. Kind of like cosmicpvp does. But 400 players per node, is a good limit, go over that or sometimes just close to 400 (Depending on the setup), you will have lag problems.
i7 6600k (or better) + 64GB RAM, is enough per server. (300-400) players. Closer to 300 the better. So for a 1000 player network, I would say 3 of those, 4 if you want to play safe, the bungee wont use much and can be run on any one of the 3/4 dedis.
Would cost alot for 4 dedis, but a 1000 player base server would have no problems paying it, from the money made from donations. Even 100 player servers can earn a few k a month, if done right.

If you want to run a network with 1000+ players you for sure need more than 1 dedicated server. I would go for around 4 dedis with 64gb each which can hold around 200 - 400 players each, depending on the gamemode. You might want to look at OVH or if you are looking for managed dedicated server you can check out some of our plans 
( Btw, don't get your expectations too high because you probably won't get 1000+ players, with proper advertsing budget of around $4000 you can get 150 - 300 players. )

Don't think anyone will ever sponsor 4 dedicated servers without guarentee sorry.
They could just sponsor one of them
