How did you learn Configuration?

Currently in the process of making a server and wanting to know where some of the configures learnt to do what they do and if there any any useful sites to read and or videos to watch to help me get started.

I just read the config files and look up the wiki to learn. It’s pretty easy once you get the structure of the config file, time consuming tho so I usually just hire ppl

Is there a method to learning configuration? Like did I completely miss the point of this thread, ..or? Isn't it just mess around, watch yt vids, and hope it doesnt break?

There's no tutorial for such thing, you just have to be creative and original to make something stand out.

you're like absolutely right. a good configurator is someone who is an expert at googling and reading wikis :tup:

Just change things around and ensure you haven't broken the config using this website: https://yaml-online-parser.appspot.com

I learnt it slowly by trial and error, and if there's one thing that I think is most important in configuration, it's to read documentation!

Couldn't have said it better myself. Just practice, & one day, you'll be able to configure any plugin that crosses your path.

I made a lot of serves so naturally got used to configuration.

There's no "trick" to it. It's something you get better at as you do it more. All you need to is learn some basic YAML syntax and make sure you use the website Kieraaaan linked above to make sure it's correct (this site is personally bookmarked).

A recommendation? Either check out some free configs or even snag a few at a low price and check how others structure there's. It helps to get a feel of things. You'll learn as you do it more. It's time-consuming, but rewarding.
