So recently I got back to minecraft (let's hope I stay) and I am interested in plugin/mod development. The problem is that I don't know java, I have the basics of c++ and python but not java. How did you guys learn java and what would you advise me to do. Thanks in advance :)

Self taught- it’s the best way to ensure you learn what you want to learn and you’re keeping yourself up to date

Well, if you have knowledge of general programming techniques and how to go about solving problems, combined with your knowledge of C++ and Python, it shouldn't be too hard. I probably learnt Java along with the Spigot API within about 3 months and then from there, went onto Discord bot development with the JDA.

Just please stay away from static methods/variables.

I am sadly not really good at self teaching, I usually lose my motivation so I would prefer a course or something to keep me engaged

Tutorials, That's it. I learned basic java just by watching tutorials in a few weeks i learned to setup my project and a few basic commands.
