How did you learn to write plugins?

I want to get started on writing plugins for Minecraft servers and was wondering where do people learn to do that? I know YouTube might be a simple source but I really want an answer from someone who knows how to make them. I apologize for putting this thread here but it's not really off-topic from plugins so I guess this is where I ask.

In my opinion, the best way to learn is trial and error. A lot of developers get caught up in learning new things and don't actually put their skills to the test. For example, sitting down and reading the first 5 chapters of your new book is great and all, but the real way to get the information to stick is creating something small for everything you learn. Read a chapter, try and make something with it. Repeat this process and look stuff up on the internet if you are stuck.

*Sigh* minecrafters
Don't learn to build plugins, that's silly!

I learned how to program when I was 10 years old. It's not a difficult task, it's simply a matter of if you're willing to comprehend it or not. Anything you understand is generally easier when you know how to do it. Looking at programming from the prospective of not knowing anything looks like a giant impassable wall. It's not so, it's the same as looking at a book without the understanding of how to read it.

As mentioned above, I learned at 10 years old. There is an online game called Everybody Edits which has been around for roughly 8 years. The game is a sandbox game, it's similar to minecraft is some respects but not at all based on minecraft(Minecraft came after). Like minecraft, the best way to enhance the game is with user created content, that being said, the owners of the game allow their users to design bots to enhance their levels and unleash their own creativity. Almost every everybody edits player you meet will understand the basics of running a multiplayer game and a fair amount of programming knowledge in several languages. The game was amazing, the most advanced programmers I have ever met were created by that game. I have the ability to do some really out of the box stuff, stuff most would consider hacking. Everybody edits was my stepping stone. Here today, I'm the developer of my own upcoming online MMO.

I encourage you to see things differently, it's not hard, it's just a matter of willingness to learn. I would start with C#, you can learn the basics in less than two hours. Here is a great site to get started on.

Learning to program is not a simple task. However, there are hundreds of thousands of ways to learn.
Personally, I learned Java (the programming language Minecraft uses) by reading.

Reading in my opinion (even though I hate it) is the best way to learn.
For example, I have never read a whole "real" book (novel) in my life. Except for a few Java For Dummies, JS for Dummies, and other books of that matter.

If you ask any real life programmer how they learned, I can guarantee they will not say "thenewboston" and 80% will not say "online courses". They will most likely give you a response similar to mine.

There are several good programmers on MCM (however, most are skids).

This is written with some common sense but mostly ignorance. Cut out the bold, please. it's annoying and looks kiddish.
