How're hosting companies offering $1 a GB on an MC server without making a profit on anything?

IP alone is $2/$3 that I've seen, and a dedicated server isn't cheap either.

BTW move this topic if not in the right area but I seen on the hosting description that discussion wasn't allowed in there.

Probably all of the hosting comapny that offers below 3 bucks are resellers from other hosting.

When it comes to servers, cutting down costs isn't real hard when you know how to source hardware and how to properly host them. For example, hosting your own server in a DC instead of renting one means that you can cut the renting costs and make it much more profitable since you'd just have to pay electricity costs which are much lower than you might think.
As for IPs, game servers are usually sold with one or more ports on a shared IP to cut down costs once again, but dedicated IP blocks can be sourced for lower prices if you know how to get your hands on them, so a lot of people selling for under 1$/Gig are not at a loss.
There are a lot more practices and tricks that allow for such prices but I won't go into any detail.
