How do you *not* get scammed?

There is no 100% garantueed way for both parties involved not to get scammed. With bitcoin, buyer can get scammed. With middleman, both buyer and seller can get scammed. With F&F, buyer can get scammed and seller can potentially still get scammed.

Even if you physically meet up with eachother and hand over the money / product(s) personally either one could murder the other after the deal is done in order to take it back! :p

So personally I'd say using a high rep / trustworthy middleman is your safest bet because at least both buyer and seller can't scam eachother here.

even that isn't safe, I've been scammed by high rep members before

When you or the client pays through F&F in the note have them write like "This is for blah blah and I will under no circumstance chargeback or attempt to take this money back.), usually helps if they try to chargeback after :p
