I was told that the staff team planned on either removing the reputation number altogether or drawing less focus to it within the next update. So I wouldn’t worry about it.

That's completely stupid

EDIT: I now agree with this seeing the posts below explain why this can be a good thing.

like 20 is when people will start trusting you for your rep

idk what these people are on about with "it depends on the quality of the rep" people look at numbers and nothing else anyone who says otherwise is just mad because they do a small amount of large trades and they are jealous of the people who do a large amount of small trades and get hella rep

Reputation should barely be taken into account.

100+

Why the fuck are people talking about rep isn’t important? It’s sure as hell important. You wanna deal with a guy with 0 rep or one with 100 rep? This is so logical and takes place in the real world as wel.

People here farm reputation really quickly. There is simply no way knowing if a reputation is legit or not. Since this website is forums-based, people here feel like they're all friends and hand out reputation to each other even if it's unrelated to deals, this is not Fiverr or whatever. That's the main reason people here abuse the reputation system, they feel entitled to a rep from their friends, not from their clients.

There are also those who give out free stuff in return for a vouch, which is fine if it's in the form of a vouch copy and is not done regularly, but some of them cross the limits and require a positive reputation as a form of payment for their services.

A reputation system will not be able to work on websites like this one, where it's very easy to make friendships and also very easy to do things behind the staff team's back. Considering this system essential for choosing your next freelancer is utterly ridiculous.

Utilising the reputation system as a form of currency is a punishable offense. And, if I'm not mistaken, some reputation are removed if they are deemed unsatisfactory.

In early 2018, I offered a free signature service where people were encouraged to vouch. None of the clients were forced or even encouraged to give me a positive reputation. However, some felt inclined to as I was doing a free service. I don't believe there is anything wrong with people giving position reputation for a free transaction of services as the customer service and experience is still very much there. It ultimately comes down to the discretion of the user on whether they give reputation for a free transaction or now.
This is not what I'm talking about. I am talking about people who require you to provide a reputation for a service, and those people are not always caught.

It's not the number that matters, it's the total $ amount that they've dealt with

There's a lot of server owners who don't use mc-market, if they just join people are like "DNDW", yes you should be cautious, but they have the same chance of scamming you then a "reputable member".

Lets say the owner of hypixel makes an account, sells a custom plugin for the community, who are you gonna trust more? Hypixel or a guy with 1000 rep.

Reputation at one point mattered, but now it really doesn’t. If you really want to find a trusted individual, then you have to be smart..
How long have they been here. I wouldn’t trust someone based off this, because many people could of easily created an account in 2016 then left to come back. However, if they’re still around from 2015, good chances they’re not a ban evader. Also, they’ve been around long enough to surpass they’re peers who have scammed and ran.
